Superstitious?
« on: March 20, 2005, 09:55:34 am »
Are you one of those who today needs to find them lucky socks? Do you go through a Derby Day routine? Have you been searching for something that will ensure a victory today?

Look no further. I'm glad to bring you:

The Chinese Year of the Rooster

The sign of the Rooster indicates a person who is hard-working and definite about their decisions. Roosters are not afraid to speak their minds and can therefore sometimes come across as boastful. They make good restaurant owners and world travellers.

We always win a Derby in the year of the rooster, ever since the very first in our history in 1897.

2005 to be confirmed
1993 1-0 Ronnie Rosenthal
1981 3-1 Dalglish (2) Rush
1969 3-0 Hughes Brownog Graham
1957 no match
1945 2-1 Liddell Shannon
1933 7-4 Barton (3) Hanson Morrison Taylor Roberts
1921 3-0 Johnson Chambers (2)
1909 3-2 Goddard Stewart Parkinson
1897 3-1 Cunliffe McQue Becton

still not convinced? What about players born in the year of the Rooster? Milan Baros
and Stephen Warnock will surely both play an integral part in todays game.

Still not convinced?

Nah neither am I, but what else do you do when Derby Day nerves kick in at 4.45am in the morning?

Great start to the day. The wife asked me to get up at 5am because she was black and blue, being kicked all night. She was not persuaded by my argument that the final boot up her arse scored the winner today.

Neither was she convinced by the arguement, that when I was hugging and kissing her at 3.45am it was actually celebrating Riise's opening goal. Wives are funny people. I mean how can she still be snoring her head off at this bloody time on Derby Day. Jeez the game is only 6 hours 5 mins away, but who's counting.

I've got a knot in the pit of my stomach that just wont go away today. But where can you get a Stella this time in the morning? What time did your Derby Day start today? Anything funny happened yet?

I'm off for the Sunday papers and to look for a pair of Magpies. Well, as soon as I find my lucky socks I am.

Derby Day nerves my arse. Butterflies? They're more like bloody Albatrosses.

I'm seriously shitting myself.

My superstition over which I have no control is remembering/forgetting the beer just at kick off. So I don't get to see the see the first kick of the game cos I'm in the kitchen - if that happens, we ALWAYS win.

I'll let you know what happens.

My butterflies have flown right up to my throat, so nervous.

Great read that Wooly. That settles it then, we're gonna win. :scarf That's some interesting stats about the year of the Rooster, wouldn't like to break a tradition now would we.

i was awake at 6:30am... what the fuck!? turned the tv on and watched some F1, and then i had to find the LFC shirt.

now here's something about my shirt- may seem stupid to some, common sense to others. when i wear the shirt and we play a shit  game- it has to be washed straight away- similarly if we play well it doesn't get washed for the next match. you see, i believe the good play will somehow get passed on if we play well, or bad play washed off. anyways, on wednesday we hardly played well. but i didn't wash it. so, i wore it when playing football on friday- thinking that if I played well myself so would LFC on sunday. shoulda seen me guys  :D- goals here and there, being forced to run towards my own goal, then suddenly turning and running towards the other goal and a sweet right foot later... or maybe a latching onto a perfect lofted ball with my left foot (i'm both footed)- to see a volley into the goal...

so thats the story of how sad i am, maybe, maybe not- but we'll win today- with gerrard lofting a pass into riise's path and the ginger head smashing into the net, and also when milan gets to happy on the ball, and is forced to turn his back on goal- getting into our half with that big twat kilbane on him, then suddenly milan turns him and runs- finding the far corner of the goal with his right footed shot...

COME ON LFC!  ;D :scarf :scarf :scarf :scarf

No lucky socks I'm afraid wooly
Went to bed dead late; woke up too early
Feel like shit
Nerves still haven't kicked in; daren't go out or I'll have happy feet from traipsing round the park, avoiding the muggers.

Long since run out of lucky shirts; I'm one of those sad bastards, who just has to wear red. These days it's a choice of 2 retro shirts
A 70s one for when the Kenny bug hits
A 60s one for the Saint Days

And my fave; a RayK  Hillsborough T-shirt, which is doing duty yet again today
Of course, Ray too has let me down continually to this season (must tell Jimmy Case to have a word with him about that).
But he was there to cheer on the lads v Leverkusen, in the first leg.

And if we don’t win, then you all know who's to blame

I wonder why one comment from me has sparked off a series of discussions about sleeping..
Er.. but well, never mind.
Back to the topic.
I try not to be too superstitious... maybe I am when it comes to certain things, but when it comes to Liverpool.. I don't think I go through any particular routine at all.. because I've realised no matter what I do.. it doesn't seem to affect the result! I've always prayed for Liverpool before a match.. and I've tried praying to God in different ways (like asking him nicely instead of demanding it), but I've realised that he only answers my prayers whenever He likes. So nowadays, I don't even pray that we'll win, because I know the fans from the other side probably does the same. All I pray about is for all of us to be happy regardless of the result. :) Wow, I sound like a saint.

He's just been having a holiday for the last 15 years

And if I did believe in a deity who didn't wear No9, then I might well pray to him (or her).
In fact if he/she didn't respond; I would seriously consider taking my custom elsewhere

Hurrah for the lucky socks/T-shirt/ring/away shirt.!

But whatever rabbit's foot was being fondled by Fernando & Luis Garcia; their luck ran our before HT. And poor Warnock & Didi Hamman ndver made it that far.
You have to wonder if God really IS a Koppite, after all

Wasn't it the french who used to take a rooster to their rugby matches ?
Wasn't it the year of the rooster when we won the European Cup in Paris ?

Two questions remains
Where can I get my hands on a rooster if we make it all the way to Instanbul ?
Will it need a passport to get there ?

Buy one there, it won't get through customs and it'll be cheaper and easier to buy (live) in Turkey. Pun not intended.
