Goddamn school inset training days.  Gagh!

Say you've got a family wedding. My wife's a teacher and has always been given time off for those (genuine ones, but the principle should be the same!)...

Come to the gig on your own.

It's a possibility but that weekend is Tracy's birthday so could be tricky.  If it wasn't for her training days it would be the perfect present, weekend in Edinburgh, top gig and a meal out in one of your fine restaurants.  Doing all that and omitting to take the birthday girl might not just cut the mustard the same ;)

Along with everyone else who has a "normal" job and lives with a teacher I also have the "holiday debt" problem, where it's hard to use too much of my piffling (in comparison) holiday entitlement on solo projects because you know you will need every last day to keep up with their holiday plans for every holiday

So... I just need to persuade two of the RAWKites attending to get hitched while there and invite us all along.  Any volunteers?

Haha funny you should mention that Kev, I was just looking at my holiday form this morning and wondering how I would spread my remaining 7 days across Easter, Christmas, a family wedding (in Edinburgh) and God forbid the odd day off I might want to take on my own!

She managed to get three days off for Istanbul but the new head was having none of it for Athens, which has sort of prevented her even considering asking for other occasions in all honesty.

Have any of you Arcade Fire fans heard of The Hidden Cameras?

A couple of members of the Arcade Fire toured with them 7 or 8 years back. A good friend of mine was the sound technician during that tour.

According to him Arcade Fire was a bit directionless at the time, and "borrowed" a lot from The Hidden Cameras, both musically and also in the style of their live shows.

I'm not a great fan of either band, as it's just not the kind of music I like, but they are both obviously good at what they do. I saw Arcade Fire in Montreal around 6 years ago and have to admit they did a good live show, even if I was only there because I was chasing a girl.

Oh, and if you're a homophobe  don't bother with the Hidden Cameras, they're all queer as a three dollar bill.

I could only get tickets for 14 rear, anyone know how far away and how good the view is from there?

Never been to a gig at Edinburgh castle....

The Suburbs still gets better with every listen. Not sure it will ever mean as much to me as Funeral though, a truly brilliant debut, heartbreaking, moving and musically sublime. As perfect an album as I can imagine.

They're amazing live (Arcade Fire). Seen them twice now and both times they were exceptional. Put on a real show and considering how much there is going on musically they're very well rehearsed and tight.

Also, you might be pleasently surprised by Mumford and Sons. Im not a fan but saw them live in there really tiny club about a year and half ago, before they blew up(god knows how they're as big as they are now), and it was great. Full of energy and as a live experience it was quite good, despite not being that much of a fan of their music I had a good time. Although it could well have been due to the intimate nature of the gig, dunno how well they'd translate to Hyde Park.

Seeing them in Manchester at the end of the summer. Can't wait. Saw them about 4 years ago and they were brilliant. However, looking forward to this gig because they had just released the second album then, but I'm now convinced The Suburbs is their best album. So be great to see that performed live. Just haven't stopped playing it for the last year or so.

I first saw Arcade Fire at Reading 2010. I hadn't listened to them much before then but a friend of mine wouldn't shut up about them so thought I would go and see them (The other alternative was Pendulum who I obviously wasn't going to see haha) and I loved them. Saw them at the O2 in December too so this will be my 3rd time seeing them.

I caught a bit of Mumford and Son's set at Reading too, but mainly because the girls we were with obsess over them. Can't say I enjoyed it that much. I also gave their album a few listens and although some of the songs are pretty catchy (most notably the cave and little lion man) it too didn't make a big impression on me, but yeah we shall see if they can win me over haha.

My ticket came yesterday and I can't wait. 3 days after my birthday and a day before I go to Amsterdam. Will be epic, although would of been better if they replaced Mumford and Sons with someone good.

We're going with a bunch of girls who are completely obsessed with them, and I'm pretty sure one or two of them are pretty much coming just to see them. I saw some of their set in a packed out tent at Reading last year but to be honest they just haven't done it for me. I'll be opened minded about it when I see them though...see if they can win me over.
