Advance word on this seems to be good. Very good. This was on my summer watchlist already but now it's official. It's time to buzz the tower again.

Totally forgot about this!!

I read a comment by somebody I'm pretty aligned with film wise who reckons it could be an Oscar contender next year.  He thought Cruise was brilliant.

After his badgering of non-compliant crew whilst making a film during lockdown, I now have a more positive view of Cruise.

Love the fact they did the flying sequences in real F18's, not CGI. I'll see if the kids fancy going to watch this

I think the US Navy gives them the air time with the jets. Its basically a 2 hour long recruitment advert.

The original was my kids favourite film growing up.  They watched it on repeat several times a week to the point where now, in their 30s, they can pretty much recite the lines perfectly.

Can't wait to see this one too.

Went last night to see it. I was bouncing in my seat. Totally fanboyed the flight scenes. Okay, you have to suspend your disbelief at times.........but then again the original was cheesy as fuck and yet still I love it!!!!!! (I heard many years ago that Cruise refused the role until they improved the script. Read that again and laugh at how bad the original script must have been and remember a line like, "Too close for missiles. Switching to guns!" made the cut...... :lmao )

As for F-14s? No spoiler but you won't be disappointed (the previous comment notwithstanding ;D )

Did I like this film? It took my breath away. Sheer entertainment from start to finish. Brilliant film. Remember what it is - entertainment - it's not a fucking flying skills documentary - then love every second. I'm going back. I rarely do that with films........unless I'm in one ;D

Really good fun, was exactly what I was after.

Only criticism is it wasn't as camp as expected and the Gaga song's boring/no Berlin.

Superb. The Parmigiano-Reggiano of cheesy movies. It will take home few if any awards but it will sure win over another generation of fans.

Finally got round to this the other night and enjoyed it thoroughly. Most of what Lastrador said in the film thread is true but the action scenes are exceptional and it feels like such a treat to see Tom Cruise step back into his 80's-era commercial acting style. Like welcoming back an old friend and realising you never knew how much you'd missed them. It is far less realistic than the original film but frankly, who cares?

I loved when they destroyed the Death Star!!!

Especially when Rooster used the force...or maybe he recalled how he used to bullseye womp-rats in his T16 back home...Those weren't much bigger than two meters.

Haha.. I said that in the cinema
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”
