That Sadio pass to Robbo on Jota's first goal was hot sex on a platter. Brilliant.

Were we loosey-goosey at the back or was it just that Saints gambled on three strikers on our line to give themselves a sliver of a chance?

You have to take into account the conditions the way the wind was really swirling. It took both teams by surprise on occasions especially first half. We could be better at the back, but noting that can't be improved with time.

4 - 0 great scoreline, lots to love

but man there was so much wrong in that game from us, virg had his best game for me since his return (cleaning up loads of shit we were gifting them)

anyway, not going to bang on about the negative cos it'll look like somone pissed on chips while im about to devour a stunning steak stew  ;D

i give credit to southampton for having a go (as im sure H felt sitting back would be a loss anyway) and their plan largely working in the first half going forward but we took enough of our chances while they couldnt muster fuckall from all the opportunities they had - brave from them but we're just a better outfit, simple as that really

Sounds like it was a fairly comfortable Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing the highlights.

Bit of pressure applied to the others at the top. They shouldn’t be dropping points this weekend, but you never know.

Onwards we go.

MOTD will show all their first half chances (including the ones which were a mile offside) to skew things a bit.

Fun game. Very brave of Southampton to come to Anfield and play like that...

Southampton are a high press team anyway but teams are starting to chance their arm knowing they can quickly create good chances against us, but when we can break their press we can also do the same back which plays into our hands. Last season teams just sat back and picked us off on the break (West Ham did this a bit as well).

Having such a great keeper is vital as well.

Isn't he clearly saying that MOTD are going to present their chances in a manner that will suggest it was a much closer game than it actually was? As if to say, oh look Liverpool got fairly lucky. Not sure if I'm missing something here.

The worry after a result like West Ham is that it's indicative of some deeper issue. With this run, I think it's fair to say that that isn't the case. Very professional performance and result. The standard is so high at the moment. We just need to keep going.

So good.  It makes me think back to the 90s. when we were good on our day but there were always those that were better.be a brave man to say there are sides better than us now. We have these players and this manager and play some of the best football the game has seen, so fast and precise, every player knows what his role is and they are fucking staggeringly good at it. As good. as i have seen.

On the quiet pretty bad defensively but didn't get punished.

Very good going forward as we have been all season

My take is that in some games it becomes quickly apparent to the whole side that we can have the other team up top any time we want, and that they are not really a huge threat against either. In this game that happened after 90 seconds. We started flat out, basically took them apart twice and then scored a beauty on the third attempt and it wasn't even the second minute yet. information: these cant keep up.

When those games happen, this team has been together for a long time and it knows when its got the measure of the other side.  We dont exactly lose all focus but we do lose some intensity because the danger element pretty much goes out of the game. so thats when the "sloppy" creeps in, especially in terms of whole team defending. It shouldn't be like that but the players are not machines.

we rarely play like that in big important closely matched games, so im not to arsed about it even though its not perfect obviously.

so its not the end of the world for me

Amplification does not equal truth.

One of our best attacking performances from the season. Thiago and Jota were sublime.

Play like that vs Everton and we win comfortably. Don't stoop to their level.

We were not defensively bad. Our back four and Fabinho dealt with most threat from them well. The thing was Southampton was setup to press high, and they tried to attack us and we made a couple of mistakes early on that Alisson had to save. Apart from that our shape and concentration was spot on. Once we adjusted to that, we started dominating and they had no answers. Nothing like you mention.

Moaning after a 4-0 win.

not really moaning but just how media like to portray the narrative that saints were the better team. and most clueless twitter and armchair fans will take it as gospel.

surely no mention of mane's offside goal and another horrendous and almost season ending tackle that mane suffered from.

on the performance side

how did you guys rate konate performance? thought he was pretty proactive and aggressive in some phases but did have a couple of errors in him.

He's still settling in, but the signs are promising. Give him time. Today was the perfect kind of game for a player who is still new to the team - he gets another 90 minutes under his belt and should learn a bit from the experience.

Good win and could have had a few more. Luckily Southampton are shite at finishing, most other teams with those chances would have bagged a couple.

Four goals, clean sheet, no injuries and Milner didn’t get booked…. Can’t ask for much more!
