Tubby vs Adz LFC vs Hazell is a three-way battle, the other three are two-way battles. This is due to the fixture ending 9-9!

Consider the full careers of said players not just their time at Liverpool, as previously mentioned  :wave

Owen and Anelka would go to town on that defence. Not sure about that strike force of two false nines either.

Trent and Ox on the wing doubling up against the might of Staunton and Aquilani, whipping balls in for Heskey up against Rigobert Song? :D I think they’d be alright.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

More like against the tandem of Wright and Konate, both of whom are as tall or taller than Heskey. Neither of your strikers have achieved one in three at any club they've been at - how can anyone take a team seriously with two supporting strikers and no Gerrard-level goalscorer further back? And that Doni-Stig-Kyriagkis-Lovren-TAA defence is the most porous in the entire draft.

Whats tall got to do with anything? :D Heskey at his best would dismantle either of them, Wright in particular. As for porous, come on! Your goalkeepers nickname was literally Calamity James, your right CBs main claim to fame was Ged telling everyone God was copying his grass eating celebration. If you google 'Mark Wright' you get the TV personality and if you google 'Mark Wright footballer' you get the same bloke, such was the legacy he left. Your 'attacking left wing back' got 64 goals and assists in 540 games, my 'attacking right wing back' has 65 in less than half that. It'd be an utter slaughter down that side. My midfield would absolutely smother your lightweight mess, with big Emile knocking down balls for Bobby and Maxi to brutalise your defensive midfield area.

And again....Danny Murphy as a right wing back. I've genuinely never seen such a shocking pick in drafts since maybe AWWYC selected an outfield player in goal, and even then its close.

Your team is literally Owen, Anelka and Stevie.....and then a complete and utter mess :D And two of them were major under-achievers considering how talented they were as youngsters.

While I agree with that Murphy shout, Mark Wright was a very good player that we probably didn’t see the best of. And I’d have Staunton over Bjornebye at left back too (when comparing both at their best).

Just in the interest of balance. :D

Aye I know, he was a good player was Wright. Probably our one decent CB in the 90s until Sami turned up! Have to go vitriolic though, all these teams are tighter than a ducks arse (except PiM who won't stop drafting people like Neil Ruddock :D)

I think switching Thomas and Murphy might've worked better.  Thomas was a more industrious midfielder and I'm pretty sure he played down the right for us a few times.

You do have a good midfield, but it's not that much better, and your attack and defence are a calamity. I love Trent but he gets forward because he has Virg and Matip or Gomez to cover for him, and still gets targeted by other teams. You have two defenders with almost no recovery pace up against two of the most lethal strikers of the Premier League era. I actually hope Trent does push forward in this game because the gaps on the counter are going to be monumental. And I hope Maxi and Bobby are better shooting from that attacking midfield area than they used to be because you don't have anyone to finish inside the box.

And underachievers? Owen and Anelka have won Ballon d'ors, league titles and Champions Leagues. What have Maxi and Keita won in their careers? I mean, Keita has some medals but he was basically a passenger for the title winning season and wasn't in the team for most of the CL season. Didn't feel like much of a loss.

Of the players he selected Gerrard would have been far and away the best pick for RWB. The few games he played at RB he bosses the game, and we know his good he was at right midfield under Rafa.

Admittedly people would probably have picked holes in that selection too but imagine the chances he’d create from there for Owen and Anelka.

I thought about drafting one of the remaining right backs - Flanagan would probably have been the choice - but the more I thought about it the more Murphy made sense for the more attacking wing back role. I think he's unfortunate in that his looks and speaking style made it easy to underrate him but he was always decent on the ball, could run for days and could put a tackle in. He was first choice for four years under Ged, including in the treble season, mostly on the flanks. You don't get to do that unless you know what you're doing defensively, which is why McAteer couldn't nail down that role.

Plus, come on - he's up against Stig Inge Bjornebye. He would destroy Bjornebye down that side.

Yeah agree with this, he was a very solid left back for that era.  Wouldn't get a sniff these days, but it's a different game now.

No.

There was a brief spell where I think he scored a free kick in an early Cup Winners Cup round and he somehow became our set piece ‘specialist’ and we never seemed to score from them. Had his moments like the cross for Ruddock but his delivery was always a bit erratic. He was solid enough but always felt like one of the weaker links in that Evans team.

Not sure about Murphy ‘could run for days’ though. He was technically very good but lacked a little bit of pace and stamina didn’t he? Not sure he was first choice in the treble season although he did play a fair bit. There was a lot of rotation of him, Barmby, Smicer, Berger and even Gerrard for those wide midfield roles. Think he played more regularly from 2002-2004.

I stand correct. As I recall that was his best season to be fair. But I just remember a lot of groaning at Old Trafford as time and again we got into good positions only for him to float one into the Stretford End.

Great name all round though.

So tied currently.

I know Biscan is not the greatest CB in the draft. But beside him I have 3 really good defenders. Mignolet was a decent keeper for us, and now is killing it as part of very good Club Brugge team.

Xabi's team got Moreno and Sakho manning the left side of the defence. Torres with his pace and Kuyt with his tactical intelligence are going to rip them into pieces.

Suppose it won’t matter now with tubby looking likely to go through but poor old Insúa was jumped on as a weak link in the previous thread and whilst I agree it’s not an ideal match up for me, you’d fancy Mo against most full backs anyway! I’d argue the rest of my back 4 and keeper are as strong as any in this draft too.

It was such a tight game last time out and all it takes is a silly Lucas or Thiago mistimed tackle outside the edge of their own box (we’ve all seen them do it, especially the former!) as they try to make up for poor old Taki not getting a foot on the ball from deeper and before you know it Friedel’s picking the ball out of his own net from free kick maestro Gary Macca!
