Interesting thanks.
I do think you need to take a lot on faith with him - as in... his situation / team set up isn't great, he's pre peak, he'll prosper elsewhere.
To me he has the whiff of a striker who ran hot for a season which has put him into a category in the market he probably shouldn't be in.
The counter point is obviously that if you're scoring goals in the top 5 leagues at 20/21 you're by definition a great prospect as its rare.
However this season he's at 0.37 npxg+xa - that's not good. (for context Gonzalez is playing in the same set up is at 0.6)
I'm doing this off numbers and some small looks at him and I admit numbers aren't everything and he remains an interesting prospect but I think you'd want to see more if you were recruiting for a Dortmund or Atletico or similar
His numbers were a touch better before the defeat to Juve this weekend, as stated in my post above
I agree, maybe more is placed in faith with Vlahovic than you can do for a Striker being rated at £60m or so. I don't think he's worth that presently and I think, as you say, he's been elevated to a place in the market where he probably shouldn't be at this stage of his development. When he was being talked at as being available for less than what we paid for Jota, he looked an excellent buy. Lump another £20m on top of that and you really have to ask questions.
As it were, I think he is a more justifiable purchase for a Dortmund or Atleti level side than ourselves. The emergence of the likes of Adeyemi and Isak's continued development means there is in all likelihood better options presently than Vlahovic. I'm not sure we can label him as simply having run hot for a season though - he scored 23 goals in the first campaign where he was the proper first choice, and has carried on with 8 in 13 this season. If he carries on and finishes with another 20 goal league campaign, I think we have our answer.
I do prefer Isak though.
