Too many to list but the highlights are seeing Super Furry Animals and Flaming Lips about 10 times each as they're 2 of my favourite bands.
Elbow have blown me away in each of the 4 or 5 times I've seen them.

Fuck Buttons shocked me a few years ago at how good they made their act sound, but until Tarot Sport wasn't convinced by the music.

Radiohead at Old Trafford Cricket Ground was a cracker but missed out on Nando's European Championship winning goal.

Think it's fair to say we have wildly differing opinions as to what makes a good gig mate.

Glad you enjoyed it, 1st time id seen prodigy since Creamfields years ago and they were brilliant!

No idea why they are doing tiny weird venues though!

They did a main tour early last year I had tickets for M.E.N. but sold them at the time, after touring a bit around the world they announced a few extra dates in the UK, smaller venues and from what I gather all the better for it.

Is it? I thought it only held a couple of thousand! Never been there maself

About 30 seconds in you can see how many were there.. well on the main floor anyway, not including the back and at the top where it's being filmed.

I can't say I've been prolific with the at gig going, but some of the ones I have been to, I have been pretty lucky. I'm thinking of being able to watch Nirvana play in a small pub in Leeds before they blew up. That was my first show having moved there. Also, Foo Fighters played their first ever show at my university student union.

80s
Nirvana - The Duchess, Leeds

90s
Nirvana - Leeds Polytechnic
Ice Cube - Brixton Academy
Cypress Hill - Brixton Academy
Foo Fighters - Kings College Union
Faith No More - Brixton

00s
Queens of the Stone Age
Eagles of Death Metal
Cage The Elephant
The Black keys
Massive Attack
Pharoe Monch
The Pharcyde
Foo Fighters
The Dead Weather
Motorhead
Wolfmother
The Dirtbombs
Brian Jonestown Massacre
Them Crooked Vultures
Alice in Chains
By the way, I should tell you that I haven’t had a chance to shower while making my way up here, my balls are extra vinegary.

My favourite gigs have been at small venues, e.g The Rifles at Southampton Joiners.

Anyway, Festivals are IoW '07 Reading '07,'08 (IoW again this year)

Gigs are too many to mention but my favourites are:

The Rifles - Soton Joiners

Blur - Hyde Park

Doves - City Of Manchester Stadium

Prodigy - Brixton

What makes it so good? I always imagined that really old venues with creaky wooden bouncy floors would make better venues than new modern arena's etc

Some of the best gigs I've been to have been in the upstairs room of an old run-down pub with about 20 people watching

Hmm a handily timed thread, due to a sudden need to learn advanced Excel for work and the onset of memory loss i used the opportunity to get a list together of who i'd seen. It doesn't include bands seen at festivals as haven't been bothered to look up who played what year. It's a mix of some amazing gigs and some utter turgid shite. Now there is a venue that holds some boss memories for me.  Summer of '89.
Not jealous at all.  I presume you're referring to this?   8)

Great list, mate. Which one was your favourite then?

Well, probably the first one - it doesn't come much better than Zeppelin in 1971 - the 4th album had just been released. It was quite a way to start!

Support bands included where i can remember them
I wont quote your whole post, Thats an impressive list! and alot of venues!
What was the best venue out the ones youve been to?

Not jealous at all.  I presume you're referring to this?   8)

That's the one mate.  Good track choice as well by the way.  Still down as the best gig I've ever seen.  Such a brilliant day out as well, 4000 kids from Liverpool and Manchester all loved up and enjoying a sunny day by the seaside.

[warning - old git about to get sentimental]

A few months earlier I'd been in one of the central pens at Hillsborough and I remember yelling along to I am the Resurrection and thinking how lucky I was to be at the gig.  The following day I met the girl who I've been with ever since. Life's strange, some times are just special, hold on to 'em.

Anyway back on topic I'm trying to remember a few more bands I saw at around the same time

The Pixies - Liverpool Royal Court
REM - Liverpool Royal Court
loads loads more, then and since, but I am never going to get near to remembering them all.

No idea how many bands I've seen, probably two or three hundred. I do know that the first gig I ever went to was Cast in the Royal Court in 1997, I was 13.

Tempted myself - make sure you check out Fever Ray there. Saw her/them at Latitude last year and it is a truly amazing show!

Saw Lady Gaga on Wednesday at the Echo Arena not knowing what to expect and only knowing a few tunes, came out of it a fan she put on one hell of a show and had the whole arena bouncing!
