Man, he's brilliant. Wonder if Iannuci writes some of it with him.

Was basically his standup from when I saw him last month. Not complaining like, it was class.

His stand up doesnt fit too well into short segments, but glad he is going for his more natural act. I think the little chats with Iannucci break the flow a little personally, but then i am used to the live shows. still one of the best things on TV.

I like the fact that he dosn't even try to properly fit his segments in......... and that crisps thing its as if hes trying to find out how far he can push a tv audience.

I watch this last night; I've seen him do most of that set live. The best bit was the IBS 'jokes' near the end, especially the final version, which was the most anti-joke delivery of a joke possible, brilliantly done.

He said as much when promoting the show. He likes to push his audience as much as possible, and said that this time he was going to go for as little amount of 'Jokes' as possible. If only more artists and musicians had as much passion and integrity in their own work.

Never imagined I'd find a comedy routine in which a horse commits suicide to be so fucking funny. That was excellent last night.

Less jokes this week. Tried 3 or 4 times to watch last week on iPlayer, ending with a session feeding one year old child who kept joining in with my laughter... like as if he was getting any of the jokes! until it got to the Mothra vs Godzilla ending and his face freaked out so switched off. Never got to see the end of the end.

Seen bits of tonights (yesterdays) sesh live. All good tho. As for the book - blitzed the first 120 pages or so a few months back - quality (structurally similar to Nicholson Baker's 'The Mezzanine' - a favourite of mine), left it somewhere for 3 days, never got back to it. Never get bloody time, plus I'm busy in the garden trying to grow food...

anyway... an apt one:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Cyf4yZc2EM0?fs=1&amp;amp;hl=en_US" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/Cyf4yZc2EM0?fs=1&amp;amp;hl=en_US</a>

arguably my favourite Fall track, and I'm betting part inspiration for last nights session.

Might sound daft this, but in a way, he's a stage hypnotist. The whole audience gets such a tight rapport with him, he can stand there and be silent and stretch the moment almost longer than you've ever seen anyone else do it. People just sit tight on the edge of their seat. Magic darts innit? Would like to see him live but it's almost certain never to happen, so the telly'll have to do. I missed the first series on account of the fact I'm an old man who lives in a cave.

Saw an episode of the 1st series on Dave last night so there may be more to come. It was a great watch (the first series), he absolutely demolishes Only Fools and Horses and how its constantly refered to as 'The funniest moment on TV' in one show, climbs a balcony iirc. Well worth checking the listings if Dave are showing the whole series.

Absolutely agree with your assessment of him too. His style is quite remarkable really, his use of repeition is somewhat hypnotic as you say. Gets himself in the position where the audience is completely transfixed as to where he's going. Not surprising he's got it down to such a fine art though, been gigging for over 20 years hasnt he? Proper gigging at that, none of those O2 gigs or any of that shite.

Much prefer the format of this second series with less sketches, replaced by the chats with Ianucci. Works much better.

There were some similar 'interviews' as part of the 1st series on the red button, worth looking up.
