Breaking Bad *please use spoiler tags*
« on: August 19, 2008, 02:12:39 pm »

Not sure if there is a thread on this but as it's starting on Foxtel - Australia and looks very interesting I thought I'd start one.

It's a drama about a high school chemistry teacher who's suffering from the world's worst case of mid-life crisis and becomes a criminal by setting up a drug lab to finance the future of his struggling family.

Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTTh6_KesxQ

Other info - http://www.showtime.com.au/series/breakingbad/

Has anybody here seen it? If so - without telling us what happens  ;) - how do you rate it?

I'll get back to this thread after I have watched a couple episodes...  :wave

Yes, it is.

The reviews for it were so-so, and I gave it a miss.

Can't wait for next week's finale. Any guesses who will be in the two body bags? Surely not gonna be Walt and Jesse? I do think it will be people we won't expect though, so I'm gonna guess one is Jesse, and the other is Hank maybe? Random guess.

Spoiler
I have a feeling it will be Jessie's GF and her Dad. He's going to come round expecting to take her to rehab the next morning, think the sh*t will hit the fan somehow. Think they gave a hint by having Walt and him meet in the bar? He's going to be involved I'm sure. Also seeing as it's been renewed for a 3rd season I don't see it being Jessie.

Wasn't hugely impressed with the resolution of the last episode, seemed like a classic writers Deus ex machina.

Still hooked, overall season 2 has been good, but they need to get back to the bad guys with guns plots in the next one.

Well I suppose I was right in a way. Just wrong about who was in the body bags. I actually thought it was a pretty cool twist. Certainly had me fooled.

How much you see it for? First season is only like 6 episodes because of that writer strike.

I'd recommend it anyway. Really well acted and well written show.

:P

I recommend it too. Actually it's one of those series' that would probably be better watching all in one go. And with 7 episodes you could watch all in one night ezee.

Just watched this - certainly would recommend it.

I thought the finale of S2 was good, with the black and white build up at the start of the previous episodes. Kept you guessing all the way through... could have finished in numerous ways = fun.

Roll on S3!

Haven't quite got through season 2 yet, but have to say that the second series is a big improvement on the first one. It consistently started to hit high notes right through the sophmore effort. I also thought the first episode of series one was excellent - one of the best debut episodes on a series for quite a while - but thereafter the writing in series one was patchy.

Think they got the guy from 'Malcolm' because of his comedic ability, but I'm very happy the series went darker in the second season. The acting from all concerned has been damned good - loved Tuco's uncle in the wheelchair with that bell! The bloke from Malcolm is a very, very good actor and I bet he's glad he's been able to showcase his dramatic ability in Breaking Bad.

Don't think anyone has mentioned the soundtrack yet - it has some cracking tunes on it - it's worth watching just for the soundtrack alone, let alone anything else this series has to offer.

Like the other posters on this thread that have recommended this, Breaking Bad gets my seal of approval as well, so long as you can get through the up and down quality of the first season to get to the excellence of the second.
Blame me for all the draft threads on RAWK

Breaking Bad is by far my favorite show. I love both the AMC original series, Breaking Bad and Mad Men. The writing and acting have just been brilliant.

I just love the show because of the acting and the fact that the show isn't in your face like so many other cable/network series. So many surreal things have happened on Breaking Bad, it's just so original. From the body in acid falling through the bathroom floor, to the crushed head under the ATM machine, the show hits every mark.

Can't wait for next season and also the return of Mad Men.

Just randomly stumbled upon this show the other night (was told about it ages ago and put in on my mental "to watch" list) and have to say I really enjoyed the first 4 episodes.  Agree that the guy who plays Walt (Hal from Malcom) is a damn fine actor (the scene where he quit his car wash job in the pilot sticks in my mind) and the 4th episode had a suprisingly tender turn from the bloke who plays Jesse (who was beginning to annoy me a bit up until that point).  Also nice to see a show mix some dark comedy (Walt's "list" in ep 3) with regular humour (any scene with Walt in his briefs) and some deeply disturbing shit (the whole bathtub incident in ep 2).  I look forward to seeing where this is going.

Breaking Bad is a brilliant show. First I was a little sceptic considering that the main actor is the one from Malcom in the midde.. but he sure proved me wrong!
One to watch for sure!
Just started watching Sons of anarchy. That's a good show as well.. I don't even own a TV and watch it very seldom.. but when I come across with a good show, I'm hooked :) like with these two.

Just waiting for new episodes :)

I got bored with that very quickly. I watched the first two of season 2 and gave up. Just not enough to hold me any longer.

Breaking Bad is very good, though. Anybody know when season 3 airs in the states?

JUst watched third episode and that was just as good. The scene which last about 20 minutes where he is just talking to the prisoner is brilliant. Episode four starts off well, really powerful, but I'm too tired so I'm off to bed.
