I think my computer is the determining factor. When I run stuff at the same time it says like 2Mb/s

My dad rang me earlier, saying that O2 Access is becoming even worse than usual - we're getting speeds of 0.35MB at home now apparently. It's an absolute joke. Stay clear of O2 Access like the plague.

Can anyone say if this is a good deal? heard/read some horror stories about Virgin but when I was with bluyonder the service was spot on.

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/bundles/50Mb-bundle.html

Basically 50M broadband, usual list of TV channels and free after 6 phone calls. Free installation as well as the router. All for £33 plus £11 phone.

Currently paying £50 quid for Sky but the fastest I can get from my exchange is 5Meg.

Willing to ditch the Sky sports and stream the games now.

50M may well be too much, but they dont ever cap it unlike the other offerings.

Tempted to order it tonight as my Sky broadband  is getting on my nerves now.
All the badge kissing in the world don't make up for the fact that they are, frankly, not Liverpool Football Club. It's not their fault. Its just how it is.

Just be very careful about what they're offering for free, they have a habit of sneaking charges in. I've just had huge problems with them, where I demanded a free V+ box due to ongoing issues with their standard boxes, initially they refused and sent me another standard box, it broke within hours so I finally got offered one free of charge. Then got a letter saying I'd have to pay, I complained and they said it was a standard letter, I don't need to pay. They then billed me for it, I complained, they removed it from the bill. Then they added it to the next bill along with a £10 late payment fee. Finally got all this resolved, and they instead started chasing me for £100 from 2005/06 that they couldn't prove I owed. Only a discussion with their Chief Executives Office finally got this resolved as well. They seem to have some serious floors in their billing systems.

Sounds like a good offer, just be careful.

On the subject of speed, not sure I trust www.speedtest.net, I'm on a 20mb line and just got:

It's usually spot on for me. I just upgraded from a 3mb to a 7.4mb package. I was consistently getting shit speeds like 1.4, 1.7 before but now I'm doing much better. Yours does look a little high, though.

That may well be true Ben, but seeing as how how the fastest I can get down the phone line is 6M (ADSL+2) theres not really much alternative if I want decent speeds. Although Sky have offered me 20M garuanteed down the same line. I explained to them that the BT checker said max 6, but they seem to think that means nothing. Are the BT checks incorrect nowadays? Or are SKY talking bullshit as per.

On the O2 Access package, as they haven't bothered to take advantage of LLU in my local exchange yet, and we've been getting some truly piss-poor streams since they introduced a new 'traffic management' system a month or so ago. Anyway, speeds have picked up slightly in the past week or so, but that didn't stop me reporting O2 to the ISPA. I've been offered three months free, or I can leave mid-contract with no penalty charge.

According to Sam Knows, BT are upgrading the line here in March. I've got some thinking to do.

Can't do this speedtest.net thingy, but have screencap of my 100mb conn

DL speeds will go to 10MB/s though, it had few seeders.. :\

Gues it'd go to around 90-91Mb/s on that speedtest.net

ping means how long it takes for packets to travel from your computer to the server and back, in this case the one in Birmingham.. it's measured in milliseconds (ms) - 31 is pretty average altough your up and down speeds are quite slow mate

is a problem at my end, computer, phone connections ,filters etc ?or is a problem with the provider?

well, if you are using your bandwith while conducting the test it might have some affect on the results.. by that I mean if you are uploading or downloading something while the test is running

but most likely it isn't a "problem", probably your internet subscription.. I don't know what kind of plans they offer in the UK, but in my homeland you can subscribe to 1Mb/s - 30 Mb/s connections and on the 1Mb/s you'd get shite speeds

At those speeds, I would guess you can't stream video very well (from youtube etc) without interruption/buffering and so on. That was my experience before I upgraded to a better speed package.
