it varys minute by minute..only been in this house 6 months.. and had them {alleged tech, call em alleged coz they are fucking thick}out 6 times already, each and every time.."oh we best replace tha attenuator on your modem, this ones too big/small" YOUR MATE put the fucking thing on there and its worked fine at times since its been changed ..so im not having that... its NOT my setup..its NOT my computer, its a new router{3rd one theyve gave me in 6 mths} so its not the router..THE PROBLEMS AT YOUR END...

and best of all..when it goes down{lose complete data flow..} its normally when im tryng to watch a game..call teh Tech help line and get some twat in the fucking phillipines that knows less about computers than me{ which is a task in itself}, then have to wait 3 days for a tech to come out..by which time the fucking things running like a rolls royce engine..

Oh its Telstra BTW..{Australian equiv of BT}

since around 7 tonight ive been gettin 0.80 download speeds on a 3m eircom line..tis my first day anybody with eircom experience this before?was downloadin files at a rate of 280/320kbs earlier nw all of a sudden around 80kbs if im lucky!?

Grrr, so much for an ADSL2+ upgrade to 24Mb. Was getting 6Mb before and only around 1km from the exchange.

it's eircom, just accept that this will happen at times and make the best of it

i usually get about 240KB with them on the 3mb line (even though it's really 2mb as that's what it syncs at)

That's odd - I thought there was a country wide upgrade last year - up to 10mb; can't remember my last speed, maybe it was 4mg, but got free upgrade to 10mb.

Moved house last weekend. Our new house seems to be the only house on the road that can't get cable, so it's bye-bye Virgin Media for us. Annoyingly though, the potential for decent internet speeds down the phone line doesn't seem to be particuarly great. Apparently it can only handly 8MB, and will probably give us speeds of ~6MB. Considering we were on 10MB before, and I had Be Broadband's 24MB service lined up, this sucks.

Be isn't available though, that's the annoying thing. I'm going to go with O2 I think. I'll get a discount because I've already got a phone contract with them, and their fair usage policy looks to be the most relaxed (which it should be, considering they own Be).

Considering I'm supposed to be getting ~5/6MB, I'm mightily pissed off at this. I put up with it for the first week or so, in the hope that it would right itself, but no luck. I'm ringing O2 tomorrow, and if they can't sort it out I'm cancelling before the 30 days are up and switching.

I watch a lot of TV on my laptop (especially now we've just got Freeview since moving house), so it's important that my ISP has a generous fair usage policy. O2's looked decent enough, but I'd happily go back to Virgin's throttling policy to get some decent speeds.
