We have Kuyt on our side, United have Van Gaal.
When it comes to being persuasive, only one of them will get his Dirk Kuyt.
I really hope someone gets this joke.

Agree. Everyone complained back then, but also, as soon as we were to play an important game, he was one we could always rely on.

Brilliant player for us.
Brilliant player for Feyenoord.
Must be a fantastic time for him to return and play as Captain of his first team. Good to see Pepe there supporting him too.
Rafa wanted winners and fighters all over the park - those two embodied it as well as anyone else.

Wish them both nothing but the best.

(Oh and BTW - Lucas 'doing an Arby' after the third goal against United there - loved that!!!)

It was annoying that him, Maxi and Bellamy had basically already made up their mind to leave before Rodgers came. Think Kuyt already had his move in motion, and FSG were eager to shift our older high earners (though Maxi and Bellamy both wanted to go home anyway).

We could have done with a couple of them. Instead we were left with fucking Joe Cole.

Love him too, and not sticking the boot in to Rodgers here, but Reina is another player he had issues with, strange how he got on the wrong side of so many players who ended up leaving isn't it?

Yes, if we'd had him in the team instead of, I don't know - Sturridge say, or maybe Coutinho or Sterling - we'd have won the Title in 2014. Suarez and Dirk would have been telepathic.

So you take a quote simply saying we may have let him go a couple of seasons early to suggesting I meant he could have been better playing than Sturridge/ Coutinho etc??

Fair play.  You read my mind.

For simple quality squad depth, yes, I think he could have been a useful player to have around.

At best he'd have made no difference at all since he wouldn't have played. At worst he would have played and done his usual thing of clogging up Liverpool's attack. So the idea we made a mistake by not keeping him for two extra seasons is ludicrous.

Opinions are like arseholes......everyone has one.

Truth is, neither of us really know how it would have panned out.

Does it matter really though??  He may have made a difference/ he may not have.

Glad to see him doing well in Holland though.

He was a quality player for us who may have had something more to contribute before he left.

He did have a habit of scoring those important goals.

No, Dirk's doing extremely well in Holland. He did extremely well in Holland many years ago. In between times he struggled for goals. I think the conclusion is sort of obvious. ;D

Struggled for goals except for when we needed him most, and he often popped up with a huge goal or moment that saw us over the line.

When we lost at Wembley to Villa apparently the occasion was "too big for us", Dirk is the kind of mentality we sorely miss

Well we did play him out of position for 95% of the time he was here, I.E right wing. Still he gave 100% and contributed in some massive goals when we needed him. We miss a Dirk in our current team.
