Apparently Powers Boothe has died. I know he had a long career, but Deadwood is the first thing I think of when I hear his name.

So raising a shot glass of whiskey...

Boothe was in line to play Swearangen until Ian McShane blew them away in the audition.

Very sad to hear of the death of Powers Boothe....admired him since 'Southern Comfort' many, many years ago...cracking actor who combined matinee idol looks with a menacing on-screen presence .......and as a related/side issue, those involved with the mooted Deadwood spin-off should maybe shit or get off the motherfuckin pot...none of us cocksuckers are getting any younger

He was always good in everything he did.

I remember a Oliver Stone film he was in with Sean Penn called U Turn.

He played this sinister sheriff.

Good film even Jennifer Lopez is good in it amazingly,it has a brilliant cast.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of Deadwood. Better late than never.

Really good stuff and looking forward to doing the rest of the box sets on SKY.

Lads. Can someone answer me a question about early Deadwood please. Doing my head in

This has all happened in first 4 episodes.

Al, EB Farnum and Irishman Tim Collins all worked a scam on the New York rich guy and sold him a gold prospect for $20,000

New York guy realised he's been swindled and threatened to bring in the Pinkertons to sort Al out unless he got his money back.

Al gets worried and has the New York guy thrown off a ridge to his death.

Understand all that but what I don't get is:

Al tries desperately to buy back the prospect for $20k off the guys widow. Why the fuck would he want to do that if the Prospect was a dud?

I did think that mate but I must have missed the bit where something was found in that prospect.

Yep cheers mate. Re-watched that scene again and Dan does discover gold. You don't actually see him tell Al but they probably just assume the viewer knows Dan would automatically tell Al.

This program is fucking ace and so glad I eventually found it. Some Tour De force scenery chewing acting (in a good way) from many of the actors. Notably Ian McShane and Robin Weigert (Calamity Jane).

Just finished season 1. Thought the first half of the season was better than the second half but still really enjoyed it in its entirety. I did read that David Milch stuff is known for starting strongly and finishing a bit weaker.

Will move on to Season 2 shortly.

Is the second series as good as the first or better/worse?

Personally, I think it gets better and builds up brilliantly right up to the end (where it should have continued building in a new series!)

Is this typically a show that grows on the viewer? I'm about six or seven episodes in and it's whilst it's entertaining, I'm not really seeing what the fuss is about.

You're just seeing the characters introductions but you will soon see it kick on.

Still wish they just made a mini-series, too many great characters for a two hour film to do them justice. I still got goosebumps seeing Al Swearengen just now looking as dashing as ever though.

If anyone hasn't heard them yet, the dvd commentaries are amazing.
