Check this out for the Hoover Dam tour as you will want to head into the bowels of the dam to get the best of the visit

http://www.tix4tonight.com/las-vegas-show/hoover-dam-tour/

The site also has discounts on numerous shows and even a day tour to the Grand Canyon but that's via a bus. Was not into the club scene at Vegas but did purchase half price tickets to the Cirque du Soleil The Beatles Love show. Still cost us close to $100 a ticket but the best $100 I have ever spent for a show. Brillant. Lastly if you are starting to lag go to the Venetian I think for their blue sky ceilings. It feels like dawn in there and even at 3am the décor tricks your mind in thinking it is dawn & start waking up again.

Leaving for LV on Wednesday, staying at the Wynn for five nights. Wouldn't have minded doing a pool party - noticed tickets for Calvin Harris at Wet Republic on Independence Day are $150+ now.  :o

Staying at Mgm anyone else stayed there?  Got to read through this thread again.

Stayed at the Signature Towers in MGM. Very good as was MGM. If you want quieter pool than Grand, just walk through to the Tower pools. Ka the C du Soleil show is amazing as was the steak in Puck. Not into clubbing, too old but did see huge queues for Hakkasan. Imagine booking a table is way to go to avoid the queue.

Other posts been asking about Helicopter trip to GC. We booked via Viktor for Sundance, came in about Ł550 Ł not $ for 2. Well worth it given time constraints. Limo pick up, helicopter over Dam, land GC floor and return flying down strip. Total time under 4 hours

Couple of things to keep in mind, drinks at clubs are hellishly expensive.

Got to agree with this. Though some of the clubs are amazing.

If you are planning on going to clubs, my one piece of advice for anyone going to Vegas is try to organise entry to the clubs before you even arrive in Vegas.

For a group of lads getting into the clubs can be difficult and you can easy spend a few hours queueing to get in.

If there is a few of you, then getting a booth/table is the way to go. There's is normally a minimum drinks spend for a table. If I remember correctly it's normally one or 2 bottles of spirits. The spirits will be $500-600 pop so you are talking ~$1000 for the booth for the night. Sounds expensive but if there's 8 of you then you are guaranteed club entry, get one of the best seats in the house (with a personal waitress and sometime security staff) and loads of drink for about $150 each (Ł100).

Hard Rock hotel (though off the strip) did these amazing pool parties on a Sunday afternoon -  called Rehab. Found it difficult to get entry unless you go for a cabana. Minimum spend on the cabana (food and drink) is quite a lot. Sure it is about $1500- maybe more. Again it's potentially do-able if there is 6-8 of you pitching in together.

I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

what about 2 for a honeymoon?

Did 3 nights there on my honeymoon. Stayed in Bellagio, and it was class. Have stayed in it again since, and also stayed in MGM which is great too.

Worth going to the Grand Canyon as mentioned above - I went by chopper, but didn't do the stop off in the canyon itself as had been there for a few nights previously. Think the flyover was about $400 each.

Also went to a show one night "O" in the Bellagio by Cirque du Soliel, really enjoyed it. Another night went for a nice steak dinner in Ceasers Palace, think it might have been called Charlies - top notch, but not cheap.

You'll easily find loads to do for a few nights on honeymoon.

Going there on honeymoon in September/October so these are good bits of advice!

We are looking to go away for about 7 nights. Is that too much time to spend in Vegas? Should we split the time?

I've no interest in LA but I wouldn't mind seeing San Francisco, so maybe it makes sense to incorporate this into the holiday. I don't think driving would be an option as my fiancee doesn't drive, so it would just be me.

Is it better to work with a travel agent or individually?  :-\

Lucky for you!!

I like a good gamble, so a 7 night stay could potentially kill me as it's hard to get to bed!! But I know friends who don't gamble at all who went for two weeks to vegas and loved it.

San Fran is also fab! Not sure how much or how long the flight from Vegas is though, as only flew LA to vegas, which was about an hour I think! San Fran wouldn't be much different.

Also drove to San Fran from Vegas but we spent about 3 days doing it. Some of the roads were getting closed at the time too for snow but that was early November time. Was cool driving it and staying at places along the way.

Might be worth researching?

I did San Fran & Vegas trip several years ago & loved it. San Francisco is a gorgeous city & well worth 2 or 3 nights there as the city alone will keep you busy for that time. A buddy of mine who lives in the states goes there all the time and even got friendly with a limo driver who takes him & friends up to Napa Valley for the day wine tasting.  If you need a number for a driver/guide while in San Fran I can see if I can track it down for you. Return flight should cost you $200 per person and personally time is too precious to spend a day or two nearly driving there & back

Booked 8 nights with the missus last week of October, first week of November.  Anyone been around that time and can tell me what sort of weather we'll be dealing with?

Was there at Halloween time a good few years back. Think it was nice enough during the day (maybe high teens), but got chillier in the evening time.

Don't remember going to the pool on that visit either.

Looking at booking for a week at the Vdara next year.

Has anyone had any experience with www.lowcostusa.co.uk? Prices seems to be a little cheaper on there.

We were actually in a little town called Williams in Arizona on halloween night, down on route 66, at the entrance to the grand canyon, that was pretty mad, but for another day!!

There were loads of people dressed up in halloween costumes for the whole time we were in vegas though, but we didn't go to any specific clubs or anything.

I'm sure there would be loads going on if you wanted. We weren't bothered.

Damn I've only just come across this thread! Me, the girlfriend and her family went in April for 10 days and I could have easily stayed for longer.

There's plenty to do, even without gambling. So many different shows and sights to see. You'll love it and I'm very jealous.

We're supposed to be going Florida next year but whilst I know I'll enjoy it, I'd much rather go Vegas again, so I'm trying to convince the missus currently :D

Yes, booked to stay in the Aria Sky Suites with them a couple of months back and had no issues.  They were about $700 cheaper than booking direct with the Aria, so fuck knows how they did it!??

I wouldn't bother with the Vdara though as they've got no casino and are set back from the strip, although it's a 5 minute walk to both Bellagio & Aria.  For the price of the Vdara you'll have better options elsewhere (Aria, Cosmopolitan, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Wynn).

The Yanks go crazy for Haloween.  We go to Vegas every year (twice this year already) and happened to be in town over Halloween a couple of years back.  We got tickets for Heidi Klum's party at TAO, and whilst we were far too hungover to properly appreciate it, it definitely was an amazing night.  All the Americans were in fancy dress and you can never get tired of seeing females dressed as Daisy Duke!

To be honest though, it doesn't matter when you go as there is always something to do.  I have just as good a time going with the missus than I do going with the lads.

It's an absolute must do trip isn't it?

I did it by chopper (fantastic), bus also by car (drove down and stayed in the lodges in the canyon itself for a couple of nights), also fantastic.

We were on a two week trip though so had the time to do that. Chopper is your only man if stuck for time.

I've stopped at The Bellagio a couple of times and there really is no comparison!!  However, if you can get a good price on a Corner Suite at Aria or even better one of the Sky Suites then I'd take that over The Bellagio.  Believe me, Vdara shouldn't even come in to your thinking.

One of the entrances to Vdara is about a 5 minute walk from the North Entrance to Aria in one direction, and the Spa Tower at The Bellagio in the other direction.  In fact, I used the Vdara as a cut through going from Aria to Bellagio.

It's a moot point though as I don't see why anyone visiting Vegas would want to base themselves in a hotel where there's no casino.

What's Vegas like around Christmas time? The only time I can get away in the next year or so is for a week either side of Christmas, so I was interested in seeing what it was like around then. I'd imagine the weather would be no higher than the late teens? Is it busy enough still?

i stayed next to the vdara, lobby wasnt anywhere near the bellagio or the aria which is where i stayed

book either the aria or bellagio

check in though can be long in the aria

One of the entrances to Vdara is about a 5 minute walk from the North Entrance to Aria in one direction, and the Spa Tower at The Bellagio in the other direction.  In fact, I used the Vdara as a cut through going from Aria to Bellagio.

It's a moot point though as I don't see why anyone visiting Vegas would want to base themselves in a hotel where there's no casino.
agree. Even if you dont gamble. Vdara seemed soul less

What's Vegas like around Christmas time? The only time I can get away in the next year or so is for a week either side of Christmas, so I was interested in seeing what it was like around then. I'd imagine the weather would be no higher than the late teens? Is it busy enough still?

The nights are chilly and the temperature hovers around 0 Celsius, but if you have some warm clothing on its fine and it is quite dry.  Day time temperatures are pleasant probably higher than 10 degrees. Its generally quite busy around Christmas time since schools and universities are out. Hotels etc will probably cost more as well so if you gonna go book in advance and try to find a bargain.

A lot of shows go dark in the week between Christmas and New Year, so if you're planning on seeing a show check to make sure it's on.  Prices are actually cheaper over Xmas, but will sky rocket over New Year!

i was there for my honeymoon at the end of last month

i stayed in the Aria, probably the best hotel i have ever seen. it is huge.

loved it

also took in the grand canyon. 450 dollars well spent (each) limo picked us up and dropped us back. chopper ride, champagne lunch and all done in about 3-4 hours
Stayed in the Aria myself last month. 19th-26th July. Unreal place and I miss it! So surreal just walking round and now back to this shithole!

I've stopped at MGM (Twice), Bellagio (Twice), Wynn & Aria and Aria is definitely my new 'go to' hotel for Vegas!  Although, if you're with a bunch of lads then you can't go far wrong with the MGM!
