I think it will be released on the 2nd of November 2012.

Haha, fair enough.

Looking at those dates, would anyone rule out R* returning to Vice City on the ten year anniversary of the release of Vice City?

I think they'll release it next summer, between May-September. I know they haven't done that with GTA before but February/March is too soon, they won't wait a year I don't think. Even if they did, I can't see them going head to head with Call of Duty, no matter how big it is sales will be damaged by going head to head with it and they won't do that. They normally realease when nothing else big is, so that rules out October time for Fifa.

It doesn't matter when they release it. No other game can compare or go head to head with GTA really.

Nor me, but they announce the game on the week of the ten year anniversary of III, and on the actual three year anniversary of Jack Thompson's disbarment. It seems that R* pick their dates carefully.

I really hope this will be set in Suburbia, and you steal motorised lawn-mowers.

Or set in a fairground, and you go on dodgem rampages.

Or set in a playground, and you have 'Bugsy Malone' style peddlable vehicles of all descriptions, plus weaponry like catapults, purple nurples and aggressive raspberrying. With Tarantino style dialogue. Yeah. That would be epic. Make it so, Rockstar.

I stop at every red light, you guys don't? I'd be trilled if they made it in London but I kinda see them skipping Vice City because it seems like a small setting for the capabilities of modern consoles. Doesn't seem like you could do as much with Miami as you could with NYC/LA. Then again, why would they skip a city in their pre defined trifecta of Liberty/Vice/San Andreas? Guess we'll find out in the coming weeks.

That game was insane. jet packs, harrier jets, a range of aeroplanes, from old wartime junk planes to jumbo jets... the cars with hydraulics! The trains, tractors, combine harvesters in the country...

Thinking about it, I'd actually be more than happy if they just copied San Andreas in terms of story and missions, but upgraded the environment to GTA4 standards.

You kidding? Imagine what they could do with Miami now. A sunbleached archipelago with rich latin heritage. They could include parts of the everglades as well. It would be a stunning location for a GTA.

Yep. I also loved the customisability, dual wielding and experience system. Top game.

That said, there is something about the feel of GTA4 that is absolutely and utterly stupendously awesome. Massively undermined by Brucie who makes me want to torture all the people involved in his creation to death.

The mobile phone, social bollocks can fuck right off too. By all means have it as an option, but then leave it as an option. Don't actually make importantish things dependent on it - GTA: SA had that side of it spot-on as well.

I they include the Everglades they have to have two things:

1) Those hovercrafty boat things with the massive fans on the back.
2) Gentle Ben as an NPC companion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsaFjefpjJM

...with that exact music playing as a default when you have him on your hovercraft boat thingy.

Also alligators as wieldable weapons.

I agree, I actually likes all that training, customising, experience type stuff for CJ. It was like an RPG in that you train your character, but it wasn't so time consuming as to actually being a chore or a distraction from the main game. Which is perfect. Lift a few weights, grab a slice of pizza, jump back into your harrier jet and away you go.

Exactly. It never became a chore, yet they replaced it with that 'keep your friends happy by getting them pissed and having to wobble the pad for 2 hours' system that actually WAS a chore.

That said, the first time I drove down Liberty's 'Time Square' equivalent in a fat car with music blaring was one of the most truly epic moments I've had in gaming.

I thought about the Everglades too but that was the only setting I could think of that they could add. NYC has the 5 boroughs and Jersey. Miami has well, Miami. I'm sure they'll do it justice but it seems like it would be limited compared to Liberty/NYC and San Andreas/LA. Maybe a Rockstar style take on Disney World?
