Fox News - Tucker's Fucked.
« on: October 7, 2006, 05:13:25 am »
or should that be Faux news......

Its a coincidence that I posted views on Fox News in another thread earlier on, then heard on the radio on the way home that it is 10 years old this week. Fox News is to George Dubya what Al-Jazeera is to Bin laden, a convenient mouthpiece to air their views without fear of questioning or criticism. There are too many things to list when it comes to the bias Fox News demonstrate openly, two examples are the Republicans and Israel. Fox News is so slanted that by comparison it makes Sky News look like a bastion of truth and decency.

All across the Murdoch empire, examples of opinions being rammed down peoples throats can be found, none more so than a certain paper all of us here will be familiar with. It is not just the S*n that is content to lie to and slander people every day, it is a dictat to the whole organisation.

Anyway Fox News, heres hoping you dont see another decade!

PS a different slant on the birthday celebrations

I don't even mind the lies so much as repeating the same items every 5 minutes. It really is utter shite.

So why do they have so many viewers?

There's always CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, etc..

From Time magazine:

What Hath Fox Wrought?
Fox news, which is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary, has changed the face of television. You're watching it, even if you don't think you are
By JAMES PONIEWOZIK
Posted Friday, Oct. 06, 2006

The most ambitious revolutionaries don't just topple regimes; they remake time. The Khmer Rouge started over the calendar at Year Zero. The French revolutionary government decreed a decimal day of ten hours, composed of 100 minutes, each with 100 seconds. The cable-news Jacobins at Fox News may be wishing they had rejiggered their calendar so that they could have celebrated their 10th anniversary a year ago, when they were at their ratings apex. Today, the channel is in its first ratings slump, still far ahead of CNN and MSNBC, but not by as much.

But it's still possible to divide the news calendar into BF and AF—Before Fox and After Fox. Much of what you see on TV news exists because of Fox, and not just the opinion shows. The graphics, the sound effects, the general tone of news is set by Fox. The zipper—the visual signature of the anxious too-much-information era—was first introduced by Fox on the morning of 9/11. First by moments, but in TV news, moments are everything. As with so many things, Fox was slightly quicker than its rivals to detect, and direct, the next crank of the dial in our cultural volume level.

Even with its ratings down, Fox remains the network against which competitors define themselves. And not just news competitors. After Bill Clinton got off an on-camera harangue against Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace, for an aggressive line of questioning about his administration's anti-terror efforts, the New York Times reported that prominent Democrats, from Howard Dean to Paul Begala, had begun an open campaign of attacking Fox as a covert Republican shill.

The fight was a win-win. Mainline Dems can bash Fox to win points with the confrontational Daily Kos wing of the party. (Including Clinton, whose wife is vulnerable on the left for her support of the Iraq war.) And Fox? As the Times noted, "The news channel has highlighted the contretemps on many of its programs, boosting the ratings in the process." Say what you want about Fox: in this midterm year, no one is out there campaigning against CNN or MSNBC.

So is Fox a covert Republican shill? Shill, yes, sometimes. Its opinion shows blatantly tilt right. The news plays straighter, though as I write I'm looking at a Fox News chyron that reads, "If Rumsfeld left amid criticism, would America be at risk?" Covert, not so much. The network famously calls itself "fair and balanced," but "fair and balancing" would be a better description: Roger Ailes repeatedly describes his news network as a counterweight, on the right, to the rest of the news media. His argument that nearly every other mainstream media outlet slants left is self-serving and mostly wrong. (The MSM really slant toward the institutional, establishmentarian center, which is a bias as dangerous as any other.) But while "fair and balanced" may be propaganda, it doesn't seem to be fooling anyone. Conservatives see Fox as a comfortable haven for their worldview; their opponents pretty much agree. The balance here is that Fox winks just as broadly to both sides.

In the end, that wink—that is, the Fox gestalt of insouciance, attitude, and even playfulness—has had a bigger effect on the news media than any Bill O'Reilly rant. Fox taught TV news that voice, provocation and fun are not things to be afraid of. And for better or worse, probably every TV news program outside of PBS has been Foxified by now. The explosive graphics on your newscast: that's Fox. The "freeSpeech" opinion segments on the new CBS Evening News: that's Fox, too. Anderson Cooper yelling at a FEMA official or crusading in Africa: that's Fox. Keith Olbermann ranting at George W. Bush and O'Reilly on MSNBC's Countdown: that's Fox through and through, whether Olbermann would like to admit it or not.

Fox's ratings, in other words, may have declined for its 10th anniversary. But there are ratings and then there are ratings. You may tell yourself you don't watch Fox News. But as they used to say in the old Palmolive commercials: You're soaking in it.

I  watched   it almost exclusively in the immediate aftermath 0f 9/11. It was kind of addictive - they seemed to have so many more experts on tap ready to comment.

I was well and truly hooked, even though it was a  usually million miles away from my own political viewpoint and principles.

Ha! Ha!

A simple question: why does it matter to you and your equally obsessed Irish mates that a bunch of right-wing idiots in a completely different county watch a news channel that's been designed to cater to them?

And why do you all feel the need to complain about it on an interweb football site?

My guess is you're just posturing for each other in a circle jerk of mutual appreciation.

You know..you've posted this twice.

So Fox got one on-screen graffic wrong. Every word out of their mouths is Foley is a Republican. Anyone watching the news in the USA knows this. Anyone watching Fox News knows Foley is a Republican.

But as it is you don't watch Fox News and only get you're daily fill from websites that cater to your slant on world views. Otherwise how would have known they got an on-screen graffic wrong. Bet you don't have the text of what was said when that was shown. So no one expects you to be "up" on the entire news story.

But we know "what" to expect from you..

I hate Skynews because its crap. Lousy Graphics, moron sound effects, dull presenters. Rubbish. That the editorial content is extremely biased is just normal for a news channel. I don't even feel its that biased in favour of the military-industrial complex or whatever, just that the slant is biased towards the laziest, most cliched and hackneyed point of view, slavishly garnishing the blend of stereotypes and disinformation du jour with"analysis" from "experts" they picked up in the bargain bin at Woolworths. Its not heavy on Reithian values. More like the tv equivalent of a PVS.

My friend is expecting a third boy soon. She doesn't know what to call him since Paddy and Seamus are the only names allowed over here and she has used them both. We were discussing it on the building site yesterday but we couldn'nt really explore the issue because we were too drunk on Whiskey. So we had a bare knuckle fight instead.

What a pile of....

I'm not defending Foley at all. How did you ever pull that out of your hind end? How do claim that is the "truth". You lied about me--fullstop.

He is a sick individual. And when caught quit Congress.

But what he has been caught at--so far-- is suggestive pm's to former pages. There is no evidence of him ever meeting any ex-page or going through with anything. The FBI is investigating if he ever did anything with an ex-page. None have come forward so far to say he has. So he sent pm's and got caught. And when he did he quit.

At least he did the right thing and quit.

As opposed to a Democrat who flew a male page to the Carribean and got caught. Then was censured by the House ( where he turned his back on the rest of the members during the censure) and then ran for re-election. And had Democrats come up and campaign for him.

Funny when Democrats whinged and moan about someones personal life that when elected should be left out of the equation and it means nothing about Moral character. Ala President Bill Clinton and what he did with Monica.

No double standard there in either case..no siree bob..

At least Republicans do the right thing and quit. And-- for the record-- i'm glad Foleys gone.

What a pile of....

Yeah, we all know you're a pile of...

Quote
I'm not defending Foley at all. How did you ever pull that out of your hind end? How do claim that is the "truth".

You're defending a network who intentionally listed Foley as a member of the wrong party three times.  Who knows what kind of crap you'll defend.

Quote
You lied about me--fullstop.

In your world, ignorance is truth.  So there is a shred of truth to you defending a child predator, as long as he wears the magic R next to his name.  And yes, Foley is a Republican, just to clear up yours and FOX's "confusion".

Quote
But what he has been caught at--so far-- is suggestive pm's to former pages.

Which is utterly repulsive.

Quote
There is no evidence of him ever meeting any ex-page or going through with anything.

So soliciting teens for online sex isn't going through with anything? He can solicit a minor and jack off to a page while talking to him online but as long as he doesn't rape him up the bum, it's OK?

Quote
The FBI is investigating if he ever did anything with an ex-page. None have come forward so far to say he has. So he sent pm's and got caught. And when he did he quit.

This was well known to Republican leadership on Capitol Hill for at least a year, with some well-placed Republican sources saying word of Foley's problems circulated through the leadership all the way back to 1995.  So Foley resigns now, instead of immediately after he went through with this crap?

Quote
As opposed to a Democrat who flew a male page to the Carribean and got caught. Then was censured by the House ( where he turned his back on the rest of the members during the censure) and then ran for re-election. And had Democrats come up and campaign for him.

But back in those days, we had a Democratic Congress which actually performed something called oversight once in a while.  You know, back when you were a fan of Saddam Hussein because Ronald Reagan, Don Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and company thought he was such an upstanding guy.

You criminally ignore mentioning Dan Crane, the Republican involved in that scandal.  Crane didn't resign either.  Republicans campaigned for Crane in 1984 just like Democrats campaigned for Studds, so your argument about Democrats somehow being the more immoral party in this case is a nonstarter.  Ask Philip Crane, who just happens to be Dan Crane's brother.

Quote
Funny when Democrats whinged and moan about someones personal life that when elected should be left out of the equation and it means nothing about Moral character. Ala President Bill Clinton and what he did with Monica.

Bill cheated on Hillary with a consenting adult.  Not a good thing to do, but not an impeachable offense, or a crime.  Foley solicited minors over the Internet.  According to a law he helped write, the Adam Walsh Child Safety Act, that's a crime.  Foley hoisted himself on his own petard.

There is no moral equivalency between two consenting adults making sexual contact (even if one is married) and an adult going after a minor in a sexual fashion.

You officially have no decency in your soul after drawing such a distinction.

Quote
No double standard there in either case..no siree bob..

Your party is built on a double standard.  "We're the Christian Coalition, the party of morality", say your idols Falwell, Robertson and Dobson. The "godless liberals" stand for banality, homosexuality, and disgusting behavior.  Sucks to find out there are actually more creeps in your caucus.  The GOP now stands for Gang Of Perverts.

Quote
At least Republicans do the right thing and quit. And-- for the record-- i'm glad Foleys gone.

So covering it up for at least a year, maybe three to eleven years, is the right thing?  Foley didn't resign because he did it, but because he couldn't hide it any longer from his constituents.  He resigned because he couldn't win an election with the scandal out in the open, just like Delay, Ney and Cunningham, the other scumbags who didn't want to face the wrath of the voters when confronted with their evils.

And by the way, when Tom Reynolds, the creep who covered Foley's ass, and about forty to fifty of his Republican colleagues bite the dust in a month, I'll bet you'll be glad they're gone.   :wave

or should that be Faux news......

These are my own opinions. They are not meant or intended as a criticism of anyone else's opinion just because they are different but if you can't see past that, then tough shit!

"See Paddy over there, he's really switched on and he's got a really huge knob, 'cos he hates America even more than Seamus does. You shoulda seen his last post on Red And White Kop! Hold on, I think I'm coming."

Er possibly because the right wing element in America are in charge of the Yankee doodle dandies and doing a shyte job that effects the whole bloody world.

Anyway you being an if anything a  socialist anarchist surely you should be leading the attacks on Bush n co?

In your world, ignorance is truth.  So there is a shred of truth to you defending a child predator, as long as he wears the magic R next to his name.  And yes, Foley is a Republican, just to clear up yours and FOX's "confusion".

It really isn't worth the effort..but one last time.

Please read carefully...as I know you're twisted mentally.

AT NO FUCKING TIME HAVE I DEFENDED FOLEY.

Nowhere can you see where I have.

He is a sick individual.

You claim to spout the truth..yet you LIED. Admit it!

You let your bias and hatred get in the way of everything you post. You read and interpret things as you want or have been brainwashed into.

Please point out any statement of mine which indicates I supported Foley. There isn't one. Go 'ead..I dare you to find one. And if you can't, it defeats your entire rant doesn't it. But I know no appology will be forthcoming because you don't have it in you. I just expect another chop and change and parsing of every word and sentence of  mine rant from you.
---------------------------------------------------------------

There is a difference in taking you to task about the on-creen graffic being wrong. Big frigging deal. I don't care that it was 3 times on the same day.

Please go back and pull out the transcrips and read what was said. But i know you won't because you'd lose some glitter off your rant. No one from Fox news ever claimed Foley was a Democrat. The on-screen graffic WAS wrong. So what. For days and days there has been nothing but commentary about Republican Foley and how he's damaged the party with his actions.

So the on-screen graffic being wrong is a non starter.

But to you and others like you it is the be all and end all and a way to get a jab in at Fox news. When in fact every commentator and analysist on Fox news have always said he was a Republican. So they had their FACTS straight from day one and never verbally claimed anything else.

If you want that big time victory of an on-screen graffic being wrong well done.. :wellin . Hope you got your self off on it..

---------------------------------

As to the elections next month...it was in Clintons second term mid term elections that the Republicans took control of both houses and won something like 60 seats in the House. Now with REPUBLICAN Foleys well documented problems, Iraq problems, etc...if the Dems don't take control of both houses what will that say about them? It will say they have a LONG way to go to convince the American public that they have any idea's about the future. That their far left leaning control misters who fund the Democratic party have taken a once proud winning centurist party down the wrong socialist path and have made them into an almost  irrelivent second party status.

So yes the next election November 7th will be a big deal. So go vote.. I will.

I for one think it's a big deal when a newstation deliberately misinforms people...

I really don't hate you.  I pity you.  I pity what you have become.  Once you were a young idealist who loved a great man (JFK) and now you're trying to cover for child predators, far right-wing propaganda machines, unnecessary war in the Middle East, untold corruption, etc.  Shakespeare would have a field day writing a tragedy about you.

And that's what you'll get until you start telling the truth to other posters.  I know you hate it when your shit is thrown back in your face.  You're a bully who likes to have his way with other people.  Well you've run into the kid in the sandlot who will pull your shirt over your head and break your face for being a bully.

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  Fool me three times? No chance in hell.  It was intended to deliberately distort the truth.

The on-screen graffic WAS wrong. So what. For days and days there has been nothing but commentary about Republican Foley and how he's damaged the party with his actions.

Why should I read the FOX transcripts when it's been reported that FOX changes its transcripts?  Should I trust a network which says American GIs committed war crimes against the Nazis at Malmedy when it was actually the other way around?  When FOX was called on that front, it was forced to scrub part of that O'Reilly transcript.

Quote
So the on-screen graffic being wrong is a non starter.

Once is an honest mistake, but three times?  That's a pattern of malfeasance.

They might say he's a Republican, but he's one of those icky gay Republicans.  To FOX, it's got less to do with him being an R and soliciting sex with minors than it does with being gay.  And as long as he's gay, screw the commentary because in this visual society, we can get off with a graphic showing him as a Democrat three times and some people will actually believe it!

Quote
If you want that big time victory of an on-screen graffic being wrong well done.. well in . Hope you got your self off on it..

And I hope you get yourself off when Nancy Pelosi gets the drapes ready in the Speaker's office, when John Conyers calls the entire Bush Administration into his office as Chairman of Judicial Affairs, when Henry Waxman chairs the Oversight Committee and exposes all those billions lost in war profiteering, etc. etc. etc.

Quote
As to the elections next month...it was in Clintons second term mid term elections that the Republicans took control of both houses and won something like 60 seats in the House.

It was Clinton's first term, when Gingrich lied to the country about term limits, fiscal responsibility, and basically everything else in his Contract for America.  Gingrich left the Speakership disgraced, as did his successor Livingston, as will Hastert, as did Delay from his Majority Leader post, as did Ney, as did the jailed Cunningham, and the sex predator Foley.  Who knows how many more Republicans will leave Washington in cowardly fashion?

Quote
Now with REPUBLICAN Foleys well documented problems, Iraq problems, etc...if the Dems don't take control of both houses what will that say about them?

One house is virtually gone to you (the House).  George Will said this morning he feels 75 of Foley's colleagues will hit the unemployment line.  Now he's an R, playing the expectations game, but I think he's roughly doubling the actual number of seats which will fall.

That their far left leaning control misters who fund the Democratic party have taken a once proud winning centurist party down the wrong socialist path and have made them into an almost  irrelivent second party status.

More FOX media spin.  Now you whine constantly about a "liberal media".  If that were actually the case, why are three-quarters of the invited guests on all these media outlets Republicans?  Answer that, oh Lord our God, King of the Universe...

You do know Reagan removed the fair media clause from the FCC to suit his evangelical masters, Falwell, Robertson and Dobson?

Quote
So yes the next election November 7th will be a big deal. So go vote.. I will.

And as a Republican, I suspect you will be walking alone to the voting booth, while ten Democrats proudly show up to the polling center.  You'll wonder what that foul stench is, coming from the Repulican ballot line.  Because you'll be landslided worse than AC Milan was in that second half in Istanbul.

And by the way, don't talk to me until you actually remember how to write a sentence correctly, or spell correctly.  I don't like to engage in discourse with juveniles often.

So why do they have so many viewers?

There's always CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, etc..

Because there's a hell of a lot of fuckwitts ... why do 3 million+ read the Sun?

It panders to the lowest common denominator and lets people off the hook with many issues by blaming it on the other side in a very black and white view of the world

Fudge got it in one there. The amount of viewers both Fox News and to a lesser extent Sky News have says more about the state of society today than the quality of the output on offer. They are both a television version of the S*n, news for people who dont want to tax their brain too much for fear of it overheating.
