So as 2021 draws to an end we can look forward...in hope..that 2022 will open up for more for gigs and new musical experiences.

New music!!...think John Miles expressed it best in his 1970's epic 'Music'

Eels, (formerly British) Sea Power, The Mysterines, Feeder, and Wet Leg are on my radar for the first few months. Need to take a look back at '18/19/20 to see who else I might expect to return. Looking forward to some new discoveries too - I've enjoyed what I've heard of New Dad and Bleach Lab on the radio.

Cat Power is releasing a new covers album in a couple of weeks. Moon Pix remains one of the greatest things ever so will always look forward to anything she does.

My first 2022 listen: Witches Broom - S/T (from Leeds)

Recorded by the band direct to 8-track tape in a basement behind a cemetery, these nine timeless teenage anthems and jukebox rippers tackle love (“Got Me High”), lust (“Tell Your Boyfriend”), and drugs (“Here He Come”) with a counterculture sneer and trickster’s wink. Fueled by Savage Sam's fiery guitar and Farfisa leads, vocal snarl, and arsenal of self-built custom analog effects pedals, the trio offers fresh and lucid hallucinations of various Seeds-y, Fugs’ed up strains of American underground rock and freakbeat rave-ups at the farthest edge of the British Invasion. Crucially, the group laces each composition with more than enough personality to ensure that this joyful noise couldn't be coming from anybody else's garage. An upbeat singles band to the core, they save their lone improvised psychedelic jam for the end of midtempo closer "Watching" - a glimpse at the wild abandon of the trio's facemelting live shows.

As far as albums are concerned, I'm looking forward to Wet Leg, Yard Act, Black Country New Road and David Holmes - but those are just the ones I know about.

Not sure if this counts as 2022 or 2021 but I am seriously loving the Ezra Collective collaboration with Novelist - More Than A Hustler - never realised before that New Wave Jazz Grime was something I needed in my life... and it doesn't even have any warbling or autotune...

Indeed - think it's separate sets rather than collaborative too (though I'm sure there'll be a bit of guesting going on). Would love that tour to make it to UK & Europe at some point.
