The Dead Actors Tribute Thread
« on: January 8, 2021, 11:51:43 am »
Been meaning to do this for a while.  Similar to the Dead musicians thread I thought I'd start one for the actors who don't quite qualify as screen royalty and wouldn't really warrant a new thread.

Always find these type of threads good for kicking off discussions about the actor or the movies they appeared in.

Anyhow, I'll start with Marion Ramsey who died yesterday aged 73

Most of us will remember Marion as softly spoken Officer Laverne Hooks in the Police Academy movies.  A great character amongst many (in the original especially).

RIP

Can't believe she was 73, always think of her as Police Academy age.

Damned, that's a shame. RIP. :(

Not the first to be lost.  The actor who played Tackleberry died in 2001.  He was only 50 something.

Academy award winner Cloris Leachman has died aged 94.

Her credits list is huge including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid.  She won her Oscar for her role in The Last Picture Show.

Inducted into the Television Hall of fame.

Above all else, I will remember her for her work with Mel Brooks and as Nurse Diesel in one of my all time fav Brooks movies High Anxiety.

Also great in Wall Street, Magnum Force, brilliant in The Firm and even had a memorable guest starring role in the West Wing. One of the most distinctive, gravelly voices of our time.

Danielle Rousseau in LOST, of course - takes me back.  Wasn't familiar with any of other other work - it looks as though her drive to succeed in her passions & interests saw her get on the wrong side of Croatian nationalists in the early 90's; hopefully she did indeed manage to dedicate a good & happy portion of her life to what she loved.

Frau Blucher if you don't mind ! Scaring the horses everywhere.

A wonderful actress with a long and varied career.

I read in the Times obit that she 'auditioned' for the role of Frau Blucher again when Mel Brooks reprised Young Frankenstein as a Broadway show. Mel didn't give her the role saying that 'he didn't want her to die on stage'. Mightily pissed off by that and in her early 80s, she joined the American equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing. She got to the latter stages, knocking out a certain Kim Kardashian along the way.

Very funny lady indeed. RIP

Aye.  I've been following her since her Babylon 5 days.  After Marie Fredriksson of Roxette she was probably my next best crush lol ;)

Her husband is Serb and she is Croat; and when she refused to quit the Serbian Belgrade theatre (because she wanted to work in both "countries"), the Croatians turned on her like a pack of wolves.

Ah shit, Christopher Plummer has died?  I think my mum has had a crush on him since the Sound of Music. My dad has a Julie Andrews thing too, so I think they were well suited (the first film they watched at the pictures together).

I mentioned The Insider in the Decent Films thread this week. He's so good as Mike Wallace. The little gesture he makes with his glasses as he's lashing Gina Gershon is so good.

Just heard about Chris Plummer.  Such a versatile actor, whether it's a WW2 fighter pilot or Chang from Star Trek.  I watched the Honest Trailer to Knives Out just last night, and he has the kind of presence that convinced you he was going to be around forever.  Sad loss.

The Wire’ actor Michael K. Williams found dead in NYC apartment - New York Post

“The Wire’’ actor Michael K. Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment Monday afternoon, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

Drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment, suggesting a possible overdose, sources said.

Dean Stockwell, of Quantum Leap and Battlestar Galactica fame, has died aged 85.

There isn't many actors who could be legitimately cast as someone who intimidated Dennis Hopper's Frank Booth, like he did in Blue Velvet.
