Harry Brook currently cruising at 125 v the Saffers. I wonder if he's now done enough to get into the starting XI. Or will they stick with Pope and Crawley?

There’s actual red ball cricket being played in August? What madness is this?!

Duckett has been in really good form this year. I don't know if they'd give him another go but 4 tests was surely not enough when you look at some bums who are still in the set up and what they've had.

Didn’t he have a couple of off the field incidents too? No idea how severe (or not) they were but I think he lost a bit of goodwill because of that.

Pouring a pint over Jimmy Anderson's head probably wasn't the greatest career move.

Malan tucked into some buffet bowling at Old Trafford. Parkinson went round the yard but then I guess facing international calibre hitters will find you out when all you’ve got is a 40 mile an hour leggy.

Big loss for South Africa. Olivier tore a muscle in the Lions game and will be out of the Test series:

Have there been any Kaplok players in the past, ie. reverse Kolpak, where cricketers eligible for England have chosen to play for South Africa instead?

Anderson now at 40 going into a test series, and he seems to have no plans of stopping soon.

Expect to see:

Crawley
Lees
Pope
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Foakes
Broad
Robinson/Potts
Leach
Anderson

Unfortunately think he's there until the end of the summer at least. Would be madness to keep him into winter tours if he still isn't producing.

Who would be opening there then? I can't say I've know Brook to be an opener. You'd think they would give him that role for the Lions last week if so.

By the way, just went to look up some stats and seen his middle name is Cherrington.  :o

35 minutes left until Crawley is out, 4 hours until England are out for 120! Can't wait  ;D

Unsurprisingly he has Crawley now.

Didn’t realise SA are back to 3rd in the rankings, after some time in the doldrums. Has their batting improved? Their seam options have always been fairly strong.

There were very high hopes for him. As for most English batsmen of his era, he had some horrible bowling attacks to deal with in his early tests. Think he made his debut against peak Alan Donald (and big Fannie).

Often happens that. A young player's emergence will coincide with a fearsome era of fast bowling.

Frank Hayes was a brilliant Lancashire batter when I was a kid. Big hopes. He started well at Test level but then ran into Roberts and Holding, Lillee and Thompson.

Scored a hundred on dayboo didn’t he? Think there was a massive gap then until Graham Thorpe did it against Australia (in his second innings). We had a spell under Fletcher when it felt like nearly every new batsman would come in and score a ton straight away.

Hopefully Rabada can knock one more off and pick up a well deserved 5 for. Be nice for him to get his name on the board at Lords Museum.

Interesting use of bowlers so far. Rabada has bowled 16 overs while a couple of their pacers have only bowled 5 and 6. Elgar isn't afraid to just ride his back.

Gets Anderson LBW for his 5. Brilliant. He kept bowling to Potts as if he's a good player ;D Just bowl at the stumps with our tail enders and you'll be fine. They can't hold a bat.
