Its reported that he is training separately from the rest of the squad in Boston tonight. Hope its nothing serious; I'm looking forward to him being influential and successful at the start of this season.

If it's reported then post a fecking link.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was absent from the Liverpool squad that trained at Fenway Park on Saturday.

But there is no suggestion the midfielder has suffered any sort of injury setback.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was instead following his own specialist training programme having played for an hour in Friday’s 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in Notre Dame.

It was the longest the 25-year-old has featured since making his return after being sidelined for a year with a serious knee injury.

Will be like a new signing no? Who knows if he had played last season, we might have won the league.

If we hadn’t loaned Clyne we would have won the league. It’s true!

I would think 60 mins in a reasonably competitive match would be a milestone for the Ox. The medical device might have suggested a non intense follow up session as a routine procedure. Hopefully that is the case and nothing to worry about.

Just watched the highlights... incredibly encouraging to see how sharp he is.
Now there is a slight note of caution because he might be closer to 100% as he's effectively had months of pre season compared to other players on the pitch but he really looked like the same player
The big scary elephant in the room is how he holds up over time

This was always a two step thing... first step can he get back to being the same player, second step can his body hold up to playing top level football consistently which we'll only know by him doing it!
Fingers crossed because he's the best attacking midfielder in the squad at his best and makes a difference to us

Oddly - I think he's still a touch "bulky" - but then he's always had a physique that looks more like a rugby/american football player than a football player.

Didn't he start off as a rugger bugger?

Looked very good v Dortmund: sharp, twists and turns, good vision and a great burst of pace on one occasion

I’m interested in how his knee holds up under pre season training.

Often they swell and get painful after use. When he was getting back to fitness he and Klopp were both keen to say that there was no reaction from the knee.

Now, to a layman like me this is a great sign and I wonder if this is still the case?  I’ve seen players who’ve had acl repairs hold ice packs to they’re knees after playing.

Would be interested to know if this is the case here too.

Obviously this is all my uneducated drivel and Welshred would be able to give an informed view

I thought that when I watched the Dortmund highlights. He had slimmed down a lot by February of his first season with us, but seems to have bulked up again since the injury.

Makes me wonder if that's not what the club has told him to do,Jurgen told Gomez to lose some muscle didn't he,some people arre better with the bulk due to their frame whilst others like Joe not so much.

Yeah was great to see his speed on the ball. Doesn’t look like he’s lost any pace which is amazing.

A testament to how hard he worked in his rehab. The surgery obviously must have been good too, but he’s worked his socks off to get back in the best shape possible. Sounds like he helped Brewster too.

Eg. the post-match interview where the reporter asked Coutinho about an upcoming move to Barcelona, and Ox stepped in and rebuked the reporter. Everyone knew what was happening with Barcelona, but Coutinho was still a Liverpool player and Ox stood up for him. Fantastic.

Whether re-ruptures? ;) there's nothing you'll be able to see now to judge his recovery, the only differences you'll be able to see will be on data the club gather during each training session and match.

From what I've seen of him so far this pre-season, he doesn't look like he's lost any agility and there's still a nice turn of pace to his game.  Really positive signs that the surgery was successful and he's every chance of getting back to the level he was before the injury.

Do you think his playing a significant part (minutes wise) in both games in such quick succession, and training away from the group programme on Saturday, was likely a deliberate decision to test his knee and how it swells/recovers with much less time between games than previously in his rehab?

Definitely deliberate but not to see how his knee copes but more that it's just a sensible loading programme for someone who has spent so much time out of the game recently. His knee will be fine.

He's got a better medical team looking after him than Steve Austin.  His minutes will be superbly managed, and we have plenty of able midfielder. Klopp must be loving the opportunities he has to mix it up.  Our opponents might as well pull names out of a hat to figure out what they'll be lining up against!

Seems to be a very different approach just in the time I've been on this board. I recall around 08-10 they were injecting steroids(?) to drag a half-fit Gerrard onto the pitch. Is this a general improvement in sports medicine over the period, or were we ignoring best practice back then?
