Keita was excellent last season... but injuries seem to erase that entirely from memory

Have Naby and Chamberlain travelled with the squad this week? I know they're not registered to play, but having them get back into the usual routines surely can't hurt.

Hope we can expect to see both make the bench on Saturday.

I'd imagine they will be training at home which would be more beneficial than unnecessary travel.

Ox will probably be on the bench again but doubt we'll see Keita for at least another week as he's a bit behind Ox recovery wise.

Reckon if we do decide to keep Kieta , is keep him on a Pay as you play deal, or just get rid even if its for free.

No he wasn't, having a few good games doesn't mean he had an excellent season.

The 'he's not that good when he plays' crew continue to provide the lols in this thread
Not rating how he's played for us is shorthand for 'tell me you don't know what you're looking at' when you watch football

It's honestly crazy how quickly this needs reposting.

Jürgen Klopp discusses Naby Keita's return from injury

PUBLISHED 9 HOURS AGO

Jürgen Klopp has admitted 'it will be tight' as to whether Naby Keita can return to action before the World Cup break.

The midfielder has been absent for most of the 2022-23 campaign due to injury but recently returned to training with his teammates.

The Reds have five fixtures before club football pauses for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar next month, with Klopp asked on Friday if Keita could feature prior to the stoppage.

"Naby is still in a longer rehab phase. It will be tight," the boss responded. "I think Naby will have a full pre-season with us in December and that will be perfect for him."

On whether it's likely to be towards the New Year before having a fully-fit Keita, Klopp added: "Definitely. Even if he can play before, he has no chance to be fully fit.

"We have five games, so I wouldn't rule him out now for one or two of them. But in this moment, there's still a gap to fill."

The issue with Keita is you get very little opportunity to watch him play football given he’s perma crocked. So no. Given we already have Thiago we cannot afford to carry another injury prone CM. We absolutely should not give him a new contract and should probably have looked to move him on in the summer. But the issue with some posters is when they do get opportunity to watch him they think he’s rubbish.

Is that true? Besides the odd fellow perhaps.
Alright then, show us who.

Had to go back like 30 posts...

Ignoring his injury issues, is he actually that good? Has he ever seriously been that good for us? Seeing people call him our second best midfielder puts me at a loss, honestly. He had good spells in his first season, then the odd game where he played well. He doesn't dominate midfields, he's not a great passer, he's not great defensively and all this is is ignoring his injury problems.

Fabinho is obviously WAY out of form, but he and Thiago are still better, and Henderson probably still offers more in his overall game than Keita ever does. Say what you like about Hendo, he doesn't go missing like Keita does in a lot of games

Perhaps 40 posts,

I don’t particularly rate him (more lack of physicality and off ball than actual on ball ability) but it’s a nice option to have back. Rather he was coming on than Milner or Jones. Maybe even ahead of Fabinho at this point with the way he’s looked.

This is a little older but it's a real cracker.

Same.
Been thinking about our midfield during the game last night and did not even remember him once.
It's very telling when you think about it, he barely left any mark on the club aside from people arguing about his injuries.

I'm going full Lobo so should stop!

Not sure we can count James otherwise ok. Some odd people there. Thought Zlen was fine otherwise  :)

Not quite sure what you’re trying to prove here, but carry on if it amuses you. In ten days since that post I still didn’t think of him once when considering our lineups and issues. I guess my brain stopped taking him as relevant, which is warranted when you think about it.

I have zero problems with Keita when he plays. The problem I have with Keita is you can’t get him on the pitch often enough. I’m not going to argue about Keita’s ability a player as I have my own eyes and data that backs up my opinion.

Seem to be a trend of reinjuring players soon after they return to training developing this season

of course - we're up against it for top 4, unless there's a quality midfielder arriving in January we're short
