I didn't quote anyone, so who is "the guy" you refer? It was a general comment to address a plethora of posts which expressed mixed thoughts due to some weird fascination with wages and/or wage structures.

Apparently general comments are bad, bad, poison, or so I too have been told when I've made them ;)

----------

Despite reluctant contributions of my own I agree that it'd be nice to draw a line under the page worn wage porn stuff now. Can't wait till the season starts so that this thread can once again be about goals, glory, grandeur and gasps of disbelief.

Come on now Craig ;D

You were clearly referencing Raaphael's post which started "Mixed feelings." which came fifteen minutes before your post saying "Anyone expressing mixed feelings..."

Apparently general comments are bad, bad, poison, or so I too have been told when I've made them ;)
For someone who regularly dishes out how people should behave and talk on this discussion forum, you aren't half thin skinned.

Just because I disagreed with you in the Jurgen Klopp thread {edit/cut}, you don't need to drag it out and mope around with all this 'woe is me' stuff you keep posting. You aren't being persecuted! ;D

Anyone expressing mixed feelings about keeping one of the top 3 players in the world should be booted from the forum for singularly lowering the collective IQ of us all down to single digits.

It's a problem with the internet and social media. "Mixed feelings" are too difficult express, as is nuance and contradiction. People want simple ideas and uncomplicated thoughts. "Mo stays, Yippee" rather than anything a bit more considered.

Just because I disagreed with you in the Jurgen Klopp thread labelling a poster pointing out the stated nationalities of some people making homophobic comments on twitter as having undertaken an act of "culutural/racial stereotyping", you don't need to drag it out and mope around with all this 'woe is me' stuff you keep posting. You aren't being persecuted! ;D
That wasn't the post I was referring to: as you know I apologised to that poster in question immediately for a misunderstanding and potential misrepresentation of their words.

But I'll take your word for it that there's no persecution (*looks around furtively*) and look forward to years of making general comments in peace ;)

Personally I quite like general comments. It's a way of getting something off your chest without directing it at anyone in particular. You could almost call it a courtesy  :-*

Now. Mo! Nothing general about that geezer

It may have been the last one I saw but it was far from the only, hence why I didn't quote it and made a post which was addressing no one in particular but directed towards a collection of posters who were making similar remarks.

I thought that would be obvious seems as I didn't quote or name anyone.

Ok, in that case sorry for misinterpreting.

Saw a post since then which I thought was referring to that exchange, and thought I'd leave it in peace. But then didn't this time as I thought you meant me. My mistake. Am all for more general comments

Fair enough mate.

I just don't think its a great use of energy trying to lump a group of people into an overly reduced/simplified shared viewpoint. For a start it then gives other people a chance to dive in on that group two footed, and then people in the group might feel a little defensive as they don't feel their view has been properly represented. And then circular arguments ensue, despite everyone wanting to keep it on topic.

Genuinely think this will be Salah's best season for us. Lest we forget before the AFCON Salah was playing the best football of his entire career. With a nice summer rest and a long winter break for him, fully settled having signed a new deal and wanting to correct narrowly missing out on the Premier League and the Champions League he's going to be on fire.

They probably have amazing bonuses top that up. Pity they won't trigger them 😃.
I thought, given how shrewd we've been lately, that we'd reveal Mo was off this summer, but we'd got £80m or something. This is much better news. Probably the perfect length contact.  If he plays near his best then seeing him go on a free in THREE years will be fine. Most amazing though is we are holding the best players in the world even when whole nations are circling looking for his signature. Football as we know it is on ICU, but there are still glimmers of hope.

Sources suggest biggest deal in club history is structured to reward player for trophies. Salah happy to accept challenge of delivering silverware after insisting #LFC in his heart, & wouldn't go anywhere else.

Brilliant.
There will be many trophies yet to come.

I’m «buzzing» about Salah signing, but I think it’s fucked that players are not satisfied with earning a couple of hundres thousand a week. Salah is no exception. It’s a bad development. And my point is that clubs like Man City, PSG etc have inflated the market. Just because it’s the market and the rate doesn’t mean it’s a healthy development. «It’s not my money» etc. Yes, it is. Football is expensive to watch, remember.

I can’t be sure why Mane left. There might be different reasons. If he wasn’t happy earning 200000 pounds pr week, ok. Crazy money in a world where people live in poverty and don’t eat.  I know he has done a lot of Charity work in his home town, having said that.

The guy literally said "I’m glad Salah stays". You can't really speak of dumbing down when you've just deliberately reduced and mischaracterised their thoughts into that summary, to be fair

There were mixed feelings though, no? (Not that it matters.)

“I’m glad Salah stays”

And

“it seems to me it prevents us from doing other stuff in transfer market” (paraphrasing)

Second statement implies mixed feelings no matter the first statement, because if Salah left, I’d assume they’d be unhappy he left but happy we can “do other stuff in the transfer market”.  As opposed to just being unhappy.

We aren't walking through the storm now - we are the storm.

What’s your problem with that?

If salaries were not unaturally inflated by certain teams we might have kept both Salah and Mane.

I stated an opinion. You apparantly have a problem with that.

I’m happy Salah stays. I think it’s sad that pundits on Talksports and such keeps going «pay so and so» what he’s «worth». The normality around saying players are worth earning as much money a week as some people earn their whole lives is sickening.

One thing will be true - the media will be bitterly bitterly disappointed as they have to tear up their already written stories about how it was crazy for:
  • Liverpool to lose one of the best players in the world
  • in back to back years
  • for nothing
  • how salah leaving in his prime shows that liverpool can't really compete with the big spenders (no fucking shit)

of course the new stories are being drafted asap:
  • Liverpool overpay to keep Salah
  • Salah is past it
  • Discord in the squad because of Salah's agreement
  • "we can reveal" that Klopp threatened to quit if Salah wasn't signed (totally made up - but it will be stated as true)
  • Liverpool will be financially constrained because of this deal and it's the reason they couldn't get a MF this summer

(and yes yes who cares what the media think)

I was just disagreeing with Classycara. (More so I was being a pedant.)

Mixed feelings are normal. Are we ever 100% happy?

We can think it’s great to keep Salah AND the money is obscene or some other conflicting opinion.

Delighted he is staying, hope his form gets back on track with the pressure of this off his back.
interesting the club saying it is within the pay structure (must be some serious caveats).
And as it seems to be performance and effort based, best job done of the contract it would appear.

Thank fuck. Apart from this putting to rest endless (now and future) discussions and drama on here and in the media, it also means my Funko Pop Mo can stay in my car. After I had to relocate Mané from the car to my dad's tv room recently (to him as a Bayern supporter at least the kit colour looks the same when seen from across the room), it would have really sucked having to get rid of another one.  ;D

I don't think there was a secret trio in the Brazilian league outperforming them mate ;D

Point taken......I didn't want to get into a debate of who has the top attacking line in the world. I am sad that Mane left but delighted that Mo is staying. If Diaz and Nunez perform close to Mane's levels then we'll have another great season.

Great stuff. Likely to end up as 5th highest goalscorer in the history of the club, and with a better goals per match ratio than anybody else in the top 10 (except Gordon Hodgson). Which is amazing given our history.

Looking forward to a motivated and reenergised Mo this coming season. He'll also be getting a mid season break, so I expect him to be firing on all cylinders in the second half of the season as well.

I don't think he looked lacking in energy in the second half of last season and he certainly wasn't short of motivation.  It looked like he suffered from subtle changes in the way we played, particularly having Mane as the central striker (nothing against Mane just because he's now left but how he played the role was very differently to Bobby and even Jota).

Even in that second half of the season though his output was still pretty good with nine goals from 20 starts (plus six substitute appearances).
