So, in other words the two sides have compromised which is what you have to do in these situations.

Basically yeah. The club haven't dug themselves the kind of hole the Mancs, Barca and back in the day Leeds did and Mo has decided that being at LFC is the best place for him.

As someone who cares more about the club than individual players, I'm glad its gone this way and not left the club in a dangerous financial position.

Fantastic news!
I'm not that surprised. He always seemed to wanna stay, but he wanted to squeeze out as much as possible. The fact that we bought two players for the left wing (Jota, Diaz) tells me that the club was pretty confident in that he would sign in the end.

Of course he's getting more than anyone at LFC before, that was always a given. I wouldn't say 350k/w is "completely smashing the wage structure" though. More importantly, we're not giving a fantasy contract to some unproven talent, but to a record breaker.

I didn't expect this to happen and was basically coming to terms with either selling him this summer or him leaving on a free next year. What fucking great news. Well done to everyone involved for finding a solution for the issues and getting things sorted. I couldn't wait for the new season to start, but now it has gotten even harder... ;D

Oh and I think people should move on from all the money talk. No one should give a fuck about how much money Mo gets or the club are prepared to pay. I have enough trust in the people in charge that they will have done a deal with Mo that's not bad for the club and well within our means.

If so it's clearly been on the cards for a while to sign the new deal as that's not been thrown together overnight.

As others have said, I was resigned to him leaving next year. This says everything about the standing of LFC in world football - you literally can't move higher.

Salah now has a real chance of becoming one of the absolute best (I'm talking top 3) players in our history.

Mate, there's a good case to be made that he's already in said top three. What he's done for five years running from that position is unique. Kenny won more trophies, Stevie was the machine room for a decade, Virgil is in my opinion a touch higher and Luis will always have had the sickest peak but apart from that it's hard to argue that people can be ahead of him. I get people have sentimentality for Rushie et cetera but in all honesty, when you dribble your way past so many players and smash goals in at a Messi-light level it's just very hard to replicate. If you'd do a top ten of his goals, only Luis can really compete for spectacular individual skill. Stevie obviously unmatched in the long range department though!

Liverpool fans have been incredibly spoiled by Mo for five years, so there have been a lot of really classless digs at him lately. Especially until he chose to leave on a free but rather just considered his long-term future he absolutely didn't deserve that. You could say that he's been a little bit greedy like any other footballer, but take into account we're talking about Mohamed Salah here. The best player in his position for half a decade.

I said this before - where would Salah go?? Barcelona are skint and are trying to cut their wage bill not add to it; PSG are paying a fortune for Neymar, Messi and Mbappe; Bayern Munich have brought Mane and are trying to keep Lewandowski; Real Madrid are not interested; and Man City have brought Haaland.

As for the reported wage - I do wonder if FSG looked at how much it would cost to replace Salah, especially if he had run down his contract and left for free, and decided it is better to pay up??

A welcome news that will avoid the circus around Salah and the club next season. But that's all. I'm in the mindset that Salah was always going to stay this season and leave the next summer, and that hasn't necessarily changed much, but at least the club will get paid if that's to happen. The three years are strangely telling. The club was never going to pay for a huge contract over 4-5 years, and if the reports are correct they would be paying what was said earlier, so that's great. Salah could have gone to Barce, Real, PSG, or wherever next summer, but no other team would suit his game better, and his best chance of winning Ballon d'Or is with us; he must have recognized that. Weirdly enough, no one came knocking on the door for him this summer (I was expecting that there will be inquiries at least), so the green of the grass on the other side of the fence started to fade out, I think. In the end, I think this new contract is good for all parties. And I wouldn't be shocked if he decides to move on next summer or (even better for us) the summer in 2024.

Just give me the pre-AFCON Mo this season.

350k is a huge number but worth it I think
Out of interest what were his original demands, 400k?

I assume we diverted some of the Mane funds to be able to afford it. Probably the end of our transfer business this summer I reckon.

"There's something very wrong over at Liverpool."  8)

Things that have occurred since this quote from this dilettante fraudster:

- Liverpool win the League Cup
- Liverpool win the FA Cup
- Liverpool finish the season on 92 points
- Liverpool reach a Champions League final
- Jurgen Klopp signs a new deal
- Mo Salah signs a new deal
- Luis Diaz signs and immediately starts tearing it up
- Darwin Nunez signs for a (potential) club record fee

Be interesting to see whether the clairvoyant Manc continues peddling his doom-and-gloom (Nunez will flop, Salah is on too much money, the CL final defeat will deflate us) or whether he'll go overboard with the praise in a vain attempt at reverse psychology  ;D

As a fan / fan of Salah I’m delighted - he’s one of the better forwards in the world and likely to be for the next couple of seasons

Beyond that I’m genuinely surprised it’s happened - can’t see any other way to read it than the club folded to his wage demands and had their bluff called because based on the reports we had it’s ended up at around what he wanted and far above what we’re rumored to have initially offered
Honestly didn’t think FSG would do it - and I’m sure they’ll be background stuff in the near future about how this is an exception / one off

A good day for us though and a surprising one

Seriously, is there actually any real evidence for this? Or is it just oft-repeated BS pushed by rival fans and bad faith shit-chatters, that has become a thing because LFC's own fans just can't help themsleves?

I don't buy it either, they are not children. I would say though that the club may have decided it could not pay 2 30 YO's a top whack and invested in the future, Nunez, at the same time. The fact that Sadio has left may have made it financially easier to pay Mo and I doubt Sadio would not have seen what Mo was paid as due to him also. It's not about rivalry but it may have something about parity and affordability, we know FSG do not want a club of highly paid 30+ year olds or at least overbalanced in that respect.

That said, not sure I care now.
