Or: Military hitting the secular reset button against what they see as the increasing religious aspects to the government.

Erdogan has been increasingly pulling away from Atakturks vision for turkey this may be the military hitting the reset button. Again.

Erdogan will not be missed. Certainly not by the more secular Turks.

You could certainly argue that. The religious creep has been noticeable and he has basically been trying to make himself legal dictator (and failed due to not quite getting enough votes) for the last 10 years.

He has massive support in rural regions.

He had started shutting dissenting newspapers down recently.

Erdogan's playbook is very similar to Putin's. He has all but made it impossible to democratically oppose his regime, and willingly launched an all-out war against part of his country's citizens to overturn the results of an unfavorable election.

The sooner he is gone from Turkish politics, the better for that country. Fallout will be messy as fuck, though.

Not so long ago, Erdogan and his party moved to strip immunity from all MPs. That was widely seen as a critical step before purging parliament from all opposition (including the secular nationalists that back the military).

Until ataturk came turkey was an Islamic run country. Not even 100 years ago.

Gulen has been planning this coup for time, Erdogen was expecting it so let's see what he's planned for this scenario.

The main army general has been taken hostage aswel.

Speaking to Turks, many were happy with erdogen but let's see what will happen.
