Bloody hell, yeah, the very same :) I think in later years (I'm assuming that that pic is around '82?) it was joined by a massive red/gold/green "FRONTLINE" graffiti. Good find though, cheers! Takes me back.

Three oldies that resonate with me even today,

Knowsley Village, ''Ernie smokes his mams bacon flaps''
Just off North John Street (in very small letters) ''Pete Burns is a prick''

Both subtle gems.
And apparently, err...... three out of every two people, have numeracy issues.   ;)

The cockneys die was legendary, wasn't it, and repeated on the bridge over the M62 near the rocket " cockneys must die " ? i think

My all time favourite though was on the substation near british leyland in speke / hunts cross:

The "yet again" was added to it, not part of the original.

There's a good Yosser Hughes stencil in Princes Park at the moment saying 'Giz a job'.

Always used to like the Verve song titles around Park Road/Parliament St - This Is Music, All In The Mind, etc.

No way! Love the Verve, when abouts was this??

Seen it about four or five years ago, on and off it was, about 4 or 5 different titles. Don't think any of them are still there. Always wondered when I'd meet that fellow Voyager. Was kind of hoping he'd pop up in this thread! Might have a dig and see if I have any photos...

I always laugh when I walk past this one, which is on the side of the Scandanavian Hotel, top of Duke Street.

Like that one too. I assume it's a ref to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_(mind_game) but who knows.

I always used to find the grafitti advert for 'Gerry the Fridge Man' heartwarming for some reason... then one day someone overpainted it to say 'Gerry the Frigid Man', hahaha. Gerry must have noticed eventually (or was getting phone calls asking him if he really was frigid) because after a few weeks he put it back to normal again, boooo. It's gone completely now, though. Maybe he retired?

Ah good idea, I've searched around and nothing ever comes up.  :( The song titles and messages are just too good not to be graffitied places though.

Apologies to those who know this one, because it was widely-known, but for those who don't, here goes....

There was an old church near Anfield where the vicar had put up a huge poster which said: "What would you do if Jesus Christ came back to Earth tomorrow?"

Some wag scrawled underneath: "Move St John to the wing..."

Brilliant.

Just to freshen up the thread a bit, I thought I'd throw in a few that I've seen over the last few months from pubs and bars.

I know it's not strictly graffiti, and a bit of toilet humour thrown in, but what the hell.

According to the barmaid in the Pig & Whistle, the supposed 'Banksy' in town has been there about a week.

I was surprised then, when I went past today to find that it didn't take long for someone to out graffiti a graffiti artist.  ???

in the 70's when youd be on the top deck of a bus into town along stanley road, when you got past bankhall you could see over into the railway sidings, and there was a massive painted message right along a wall saying

"Join the SWP Smash the Nazi front"

Ive mentioned this to hundreds of people and nobody remembers it, im even doubting myself now :)

Yes I remember that, it went back years before St John, the first one I ever saw was "What would you do if the lord came to Liverpool" somebody wrote "drop big Louis" referring to Louis Bimpson.

Another one many years later, there was an advert for British Coal, it said "Come home to a real fire" and somebody wrote "Buy a Welsh Cottage" it was at the time that the Welsh were burning down houses, bought as holiday homes by English.
"Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and making yourself available to receive a pass, it is really that simple"

Sine Missione get around. I saw some of their stuff in Ibiza last October. On the back of a 'phone box if I remember right.

^

I remember that ''Ordinary To Chelsea'' on Lime St. Even after it had been cleaned off you could still make out what it used to say.
I always thought it was Reds who painted that but I've seen a few Bitters claiming it was theirs. Mind you, they claim everything was theirs, don't they.  ::)

EDIT: Just googled the ''Ordinary To Chelsea'' and found that Transalpino Liverpool do a T-Shirt with it on.

Not sure how true the explanation of the origin of the graffiti is, but this is what it says ...

In August 1978 Everton fans travelling to an away fixture at Stamford Bridge suffered a terrible beating off the pitch as a well organised Chelsea mob attacked them en route in the tube station at Kensington High Street. Now in a time when the city rivalry was more friendly, outraged Scousers joined together and sprayed the infamous graffiti outside Lime Street station for everyone to unite together for Liverpool’s corresponding fixture and serve the Cockney hordes with some payback…. it simply read ‘Ordinary to Chelsea’.
