Like the guy.
His 'series' (or what do you call them, documentaries?) are on again on BBC 2, sunday night.

yeah i've been watching the last two.

last week was a compilation episode wasn't it - that harcore american racist woman was a little odd.

was tonight's an old one or a new one, besides being a fantastic advert for not gambling?

i've been enjoying them too - am considering buying his book.

Today's one was brilliant. I like his style. That bloke's face (one of the salesmen who kept losing) was priceless. I thought he was either going to cry or kick the shit out of someone...

I love Louis Theroux. Personally think he has an excellent story telling style that you can't help but watch.

But the thing was that bloke who kept losing seemed sound. When he went back to the blackjack table they were like "can you sit this one out, you're bringing your bad luck to the table", they win the next hand and high fives an shit and the other bloke was like  :( :-\ :'( ...  :lmao And they wouldn't let him quit and take his money!

He did quite well gambling though- must have made $2,000 out of $3,500 he started with!

Louis Theroux:- The Most Hated Family In America
« Reply #18 on: April 2, 2007, 12:47:31 am »
Did any one watch this? What a weird fucked up family, every one has a choice of religion Christian, Muslim, Jew, Sikh, Hindu or none at all, but this family are just not right, to picket a persons funeral calling him a "fag" just because he was a soldier is wrong. To teach this to children at such a young age and warp their minds is a disgrace.

well obviously. the thing i love about religion is the arrogance that everyone else is wrong, this was taken to an extreme with this lot, perhaps if you've got a few million following the same religion it's understandable you may have that arrogance but when only 70 people believe the same thing as you do then that's the height of dillusion, would have loved Louis to have point out the scripture they are so taken with (regardless of the misinterpretation) has been written and re-written over and over again, so what you've got even if the original book had truth in it then it's just chinese whispers now.

It's hard to get across how I felt watching this programme. Mainly because I had so many contrasting feelings throughout. There was one recurring theme however, that those people are ****ing idiots. Sounds like a sweeping statement but if I tried to justify myself I'd just get pissed off. I found their stance of homosexuality and almost everything else in that programme, laughable.

I adore Louis Theroux's style as a journalist and a broadcaster. He's incredibly clever in the sense that he knows when to probe and when to stand back and let the audience see what is happening for themselves. He's definately unique. I don't know if he was angry or scared or just bemused by the whole situation but I would have liked to have seen him dig deeper, really get under their skins. Perhaps he felt that there was little more he could do, they weren't going to budge on the issue but I would have liked him to bring his own beliefs to the fore and question the validity of their beliefs. For example, what evidence they have to back up some of the ridiculous statements they were making - that they are right and everyone else in the world was wrong?

It was very interesting to see just how stupid and brainwashed people can become. I'm almost tempted to say I pity those people but I don't. I can't have any sort of compassion or empathy for a group of people who bring it upon themselves to cause hurt and anger amongst a group of people who are grieving at the loss of a brother, sister, mother, father etc... Picketing at someone's funeral, taking great satisfaction from other people's grief and despair are not the actions of people who believe in God and are hell bent (excuse the pun) on carrying out his 'work'.

Despite the women saying on the contrary, they were bordering on cult behaviour just from what we saw on the show last night. Theroux was fantastic as ever, like Ciara said, he is a great creator of documentaries.

The thing that disturbed me was how they were brainwashing their children to follow their beliefs. I personally put a lot of faith religion, but one that accepts the existence of other religions as a means to have a belief system. That family and church were just odd - perversely, the more wrong they did, the more right they thought they were.

Love Louis' interviews.  Look on Youtube as there's a few more.  Here's clip of last nights:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O228AQRvcqQ

I cannot believe that these people get pleasure at picketing funerals.  What a bunch of nutjobs.  I feel really sorry for the children.  They don't know what they're doing and will have no life.  One of the poor kids gets a drink thrown at him from a passing car.  Disgraceful.

The disturbing thing about that show, is that the kids are being brought to believe that homosexuals aren't real human beings. And that God doesn't love them. God loves everyone regardless of sexuality, race or religion. When these kids grow older, how are they going to relate to other individuals who may go to the same school as them, or how will they find jobs. I feel sorry for them, because they won't any better than what they're parents have taught them. :(

How do Christians feel about the Westborough church? It seems that they follow Biblical scripture, indeed they seem remarkably consistent with the thinking of their puritan ancestors?
