The way I feel about the football gods just now, is that they would be quite happy to have Everton and Spurs as local rivals, be the teams that feck up the title challenges and allow City to win the league.  :butt

We fecked up the title challenge long before last night, but it is true that our rivals certainly have it in for us far more than City's do. United roll over and have their bellies tickled time and again and would sooner see their neighbours win over us. Weird behaviour.

It would be a huge loss. One of they few truly world class players left in the squad.

A loss - yes, but nothing that couldn't be managed. In any case if he wishes to go - this is the summer to do it. Make it a full rebuild, let everyone go who isn't 110% commited and start without any baggage. I wouldn't hold it against him, their careers are short and can end at any time with a bad tackle. If he chooses to stay though, we must find a more suitable slot for him because he is costing us at right back. We'll see. I'm pretty chill about any of these players with year left, they can all be replaced.

I’m not blaming him, but I will always wonder how this season would have finished if Quansah doesn’t play that pass. Feels like we never really got back up from that.

I said pre game that it was important we stuck together if we didn’t beat them.

But people lost their heads and seems it impacted the players too.

I think the experiment failed. We aren't in a position to carry his poor finishing. If we had Jota starting 80% of games, maybe we could afford to have him starting.

I don't ever believe we will be able to rely on him to finish. Even his touch is poor.

If he his happy being an option from the bench then great, otherwise, I'd be looking to recoup some of what we paid for him and get a proper number 9 in.

Something went horribly wrong and I don’t know what. There was a feel good factor then that disappeared pretty rapidly.

So we arent deluded. He is great, and everyone else just doesnt see it?

No, I have been saying he is crap since he walked through the door.

He’s improved in those 2 years

His best performance at Anfield is still for Benfica.

I think we need a new template

Set aside missing big chances in key moments. Everyone can see he's let us down there, and in big games in general.

When our midfield is struggling to get a foothold in games, such as last night, when do you ever see Darwin ease the pressure and get us up the pitch?

He's awful with his back to goal, not that he has any interest in having his back to goal. He loves the ball kicked in to the corner for him to chase tongue hanging out of his mouth like a dog to get his lil pavlovian applause from reds in the stands, loves running away from the ball and racking up those offside stats.

Coming towards it, taking it on his chest or winning his battles vs a CB in the air. Taking it under control and laying it off to move us up the pitch that way, you know centre forward shit... Abject.

Pace is huge. A wide forward without athleticism in our setup is awful for our system. Perhaps Salah has been on a downward curve athletically for a couple of years and it’s now reached a point where he can’t compensate in other ways. Perhaps his decline in pace has been matched with a decline in balance, strength, stamina etc and he can’t compensate for it.
Maybe the loss of pace has gotten to him mentally? He seems frustrated.
It's easy to say that he should adapt his game, but we have to remember that he has been a quick guy his entire life and that is part of his identity.
