Good debut, some nice touches and he grew in confidence during the first half. It helped open up space across the midfield, with Benayoun far more comfortable drifting in off the right flank.

It's just so good to have a Left Winger who hugs the touchline, thought he had an impressive debut after a quiet opening 20 minutes, looks skillful and intelligent and linked up well with Aurelio.

question is, will he start riera or babel because he wont start both with kuyt.
If he scores more goals than Torres this season ill change me name to Carol.

Babel on right Reira left imo, dunno what Rafa will do tho. Reira was not world class, but deff what we needed on the left!!! Keep up the good work.

What I was most impressed about him is that he can pass into space for players to run onto. I love playing that way myself.

And, amazingly, he made Aurelio look like a proper first-teamer. Delighted about our left side options now.

Only his first game, but if he can perform with that level of skill and confidence against the Prem and European Champions, then I think the future looks good for him.

Sign Barry in the January transfer window for the second half of season push, and it's game on.

I will be first to admit, I was a bit dubious when we signed him before I had even seen him play. However after todays performance I hate myself for doubting him at all! One of our best on the pitch today, although every one of them seemed to give it their all today.

looks pretty good based on his debut. not the easiest of games to come into either. he was knocked around a little early on but grew in confidence and stature as everything went on.

could we finally have a fit winger who can turn his fullback and beat his man? :D

Fantastic debut, looked the part, the enormity of the game didn't phase him. Could be a great bit of business by Benitez.

Hmmm, Riera and Aurelio looked very good on the left, taking Rooney out of the match to play defense on them.

Same thing with Beni and Arbeloa, actually.

He had a solid debut, looks like he has excellent technique and player awareness - he had a couple of sublime shimmeys and nutmegs as well as backheel that found it's target.

At first I thought, he goes down very easily - had nobody told him it was going to be a very physical game? But as soon as the United defenders started to stand off him he worked some good areas and made very good use of Fabios overlapping runs.

I was waiting all game to see him cross the ball into the box side on - and the one cross he had shot off over the cross bar. I think when he gets a bit more time on the ball we might see him get a couple more crosses in than he did today.

You can see that he has all the attributes to his game to be a good left sided forward in a 4231, but even in a 442 today he didn't do a bad job of tracking back once he got into the game.

Well in Riera, more games like that please and you'll become a great player for us.

Fuck Barry on todays display, as i've thought for too long now, we already have the best CM partnership in the premiership in Alonso/Masch.

Aurelio did it himself, a Riera type player just makes it easier for a fullback to push forward and get into dangerous attacking positions.

Brilliant debut. Not fast, but can easily beat a player, has vision, and great movement. And fantastic link up play.

Showed some class moments. First when was in a crowded area, beat the player, kept the ball under control, then pushed it wide, as he cut in. Then remember him make a great run inside and almost got a header in. Great movement.
It wouldn't be Liverpool if we didn't do it the hard way... ask Gareth Southgate.
