The mirror is reporting that VVD has a very highly incentivised contract right now, however his new one will be less loaded with incentives.

Pretty sure it will be the same with Mo etc.

What’s good is this helps our accounts.

Transfer fees are accounted for across the length of a players contract.  So we account for his fee at £15m a year.

If he’s signed a new 6 year contract, it means that the remaining fee (say £45m??) will be spread over 6 years meaning an accounting cost of about £7.m a year.

It’s also worth noting that VVD got a £5m signing on fee and gets a £5m loyalty bonus at some point....

Add that to agents fees and his true cost is pretty much £100m
£100mill and it’s still steal of the fucking century.
The most important people at Liverpool Football Club are the people who want to be here

Maybe if Mo's contract is less incentivised he'll pass to Sadio more often.  ;D

Stupid decision. He's 29 next year, at which point we should really be looking to sell. After all, he's 30 in two years time and will be on the decline. He's 35 in seven years time and will be close to retirement ffs.

So with this and Ox’s new contract, plus Wilson and Grujic returning, that’s next summers transfers sorted.

6 years does seem a little long for someone who's already 28, but if the club are trying to get ahead of wages going nuts then that makes more sense.

We've got the option of another year as well, so he's secured until 2024 and reportedly very happy in the area.

Of course we'll reward him for the team's continued success, but this latest rumour is international break nonsense.

Glad that Liverpool have cottoned on to the idea of adding an one year extension at the club's option. Man Utd have been doing this for a while.

He'll be 32-33 by the time this contract expires. I don't think we need to worry about extending his contract again for a while. We might give him an increased salary to incentivise him to stay, but I don't think we need to be adding any years to it at this stage.

Probably more about avoiding a Bosmon scenario.

He’ll be 31, about to turn 32 when his current contract expires. However more importantly he’d be able to buy out the remainder of his contract 3 years after signing, which is Jan 2021 (so a little over a year).

See no reason why not to add 12 months to any new deal to take him to turning 33. He comes across as the sort who will likely still be at a very high level at that age.

A new contract for van Dijk wouldn't necessarily be about securing him for a longer term.

It'd be new contract that would be commensurate with the value he brings. The player, and his standing in Word football, is very different now to what it was when he walked into Melwood in January 2018.

The club (and probably van Dijk and his agent) may want a new deal that reflects van Dijk's growing stature at the club and World football. It may only extend his contract by 12 months but could go a long way to making him feel valued and appreciated by the club. It may cost the club millions per year too do this but in my opinion it's money well spent.

Using your resources/money to keep your major assets happy is a better use of funds then buying new players, in my opinion.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

I think he'll be fairly happy with how it's gone for him in his 21 months here.
2 European Cup finals, a Super Cup, a 97 point season, shit loads of clean sheets, lots of personal accolades and now he lives near Satterthwaites too.

He has to win the Balon D'or. I think he's been that good. Best defender I've seen since Nesta.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

I think it is Played 60, won 45, drew 11, lost 4.

At home, I think it is played 30; won 26 drew 4.

However, he didn't play in the first game of that sequence against the Cheats at Anfield which of course we won 4-3.

In fairness, we were unbeaten in 13 league games BEFORE he joined. We now have lost just 4 of the last 73 league games. Played 73, Won 54, drew 15, lost 4.

At Anfield, played 37, Won 30, drew 7.

However, Everton are better  ::)

I think we are just at the stage where this level of performance is the norm for him and what we come to expect. Which is still absolutely astonishing.

And why when he makes even the most minor mistake, it gets blown up to silly levels.

As good as the other lads are in our team, he is far out on his own IMO, in terms of how good he is at his position and his influence on others. The consistency is like nothing I’ve seen anyone produce in an LFC shirt. Not Gerard, not Suarez.

Yeah that's what I meant by crazy. Can't disagree with any of that, I suppose another thing is most games VVD plays perfectly finely in second gear because both we and he are so good but its games like today when we are tested that you see what a ridiculously high ceiling he has as a defender and a leader.
