What a half that was. So much to talk about.
Look, the incidents come from the bigger issues. The biggest issue here, is: we are not getting players out wide, to mark and stifle City's gameplan of playing on the touchline. It's a fundamental defect of the 4-3-3, after it happened the first time, Klopp and the staff have done absolutely nothing to rectify it. The usual move is to go 4-4-2 and match them for numbers wide in terms of starting positions, this is nothing particularly groundbreaking, or innovative, yet the staff haven't responded. The staff have let the players down, first half. Everything else comes from this.
Secondly, that was a very poor piece of judgement from Van Dijk, you want to play a high risk pass in your own third, you do it when under full control. That was ego superseding judgement there, should have just let it roll out.
We've gotten in at half time 1 - 0 down through luck, not control, it's not good enough. The biggest failure is a failure to respond tactically to their use of the wings, this MUST be rectified 2nd half. The players have given it their best, they now need precise guidance. There were 2 or three moments where the only thing that stopped City was their own poor decision-making, could be 2 goals up and it would be deserved.
Robertson and Mane have really stood up to be counted here, clutch players.
