Maupay did nothing wrong. Keeper fell into him
Think I agree with that, but then was Butland put off by the boot aiming at his head? (which was pulled away)

All VAR has done is highlight further how poor referees are in the country.

But he wasn't in control of the situation because he fell in to Maupay, and the ball came loose.

Butland had both hands on the ball for about two seconds there. No way should that have stood.

Knocked it out of the keepers hands while he had two hands on it I’d say 😂

He tried to play the ball. It's not as if he was completely stationary and Butland fell onto him and dropped the ball.

It is

But the keeper does actually have to spill it first if that ball Wouldve left his hands or hand it would’ve been a goal

to be honest it’s pretty black and white decision I’m not sure I can understand the argument

This is why VAR will never be perfect. Just look at this thread, some would give the goal and some wouldn't. Mind you the refs are still appallingly poor though.

Bet they’d also be fuming though if that was given against use like those West Ham goals.

Supposed to be 'clear and obvious' yet the consensus is at best 50/50 on whether it should have been overturned, so it probably shouldn't have been (haven't seen the incident but if it's overturned you'd expect most to agree it's the right call).

Pretty much. Maupay does make a challenge, foot was highish, which he seemed to realise so he pulls the foot away but his momentum takes him into the keeper and his knee knocks the ball out of the keepers hands. yes the keeper was in motion to, but clearly had both hands on it. you cant give it.

You can use almost the same explanation for De Gea/van Dijk, but it's more or less universally claimed on here the ref fucked up by disallowing it.

I knew that wouldn’t be allowed the minute it went to var

Too big a game. Ref shat it

to be honest there’s milliseconds inbetween that goal and tonight’s goal

You could change the law into keeper ‘gathering’ it maybe

Cos neither keeper habe good control of it to be honest

It’s just that tonight’s keeper at least held it. De Gea didn’t

Happens every week, keeper comes out for a corner or free kick,  at he’s the ball but an opposition player impedes him and he drops it. Foul every time.

Alisson had one last night.

De Gea never caught it, the foul was given because Van Dijk jumped into him before he could catch it. I thought it was bollocks because  Van Dijk had eyes on the ball not on the man and de gea makes the most of it. If de Gea had caught it and Van Dijk headed it out of his hands its deffo not going to be a  goal and less would call it out imo.

Awful isn't it? Really crept up over the past few years.

It's become an accepted part of the PL now. It was so bad last season that it gave rise to the 'let the game flow' mandate which lasted all of a few weeks because it became a thugs charter due to a lack of sense applied. Now we're back to players just throwing themselves down all game.

The cheating is horrendous and it's the English players who are generally the worst.

It is fucking so frustrating, when the player goes down twice, is quick succession and the ref has a nice chat with him and waits for the sub to get ready - it can take  5 minutes off the game - like with Saka against Arsenal. The referees are totally complicit - someone said on here or the Anfield Wrap (probably both) that the refs are happy because they get a breather and I think that's part of the problem., it would be fucking great to literally stop the clock when the ball is out of play

I've made this point myself. Half these refs are 50+ and can't keep up with the pace of the game over 90 minutes without regular stoppages.  The game is never in play for more than a few seconds at a time, unless it's City putting 50 sideways passes together.

Time keeping has become a huge grey area now

When is his watch stopped and when is t it ?

A keeper winding down the clock at the end of the game shouldn’t be allowed

Happy to take a booking for making a goal kick last a minute. Just take that away and stop the watch
