Getting a bus from Anfield after the match
« on: December 15, 2021, 08:41:29 am »
I am going to the Newcastle match tomorrow night and am currently staying in a hotel in the city centre near to Liverpool One. How easy is it to get a bus from near to Anfield after a match. Obviously to start with all the crowds are flooding out of the ground and the roads near to the back of the Kop are shut. But after that how easy is it to get a bus from near to the ground after the match? The alternative looks like being walking about an hour from Anfield to the hotel.

Book with the Liverpool
Taxi one guys. I use tony for every game. They pick up from commutation row in the city centre and bring you back for £5.50

Train is easy depending on where you are staying. Central/Moorfields to Sandhills and then the soccerbus. Or get it to Kirkdale if you want to walk past a few pubs. Train is only a few mins away.

The 917 special buses line up along Walton Lane.

Depending on where about in town you are, you might be best walking to Sandhills station and getting a train to Moorfields or Liverpool Central?

I have been using the 917 lately.  Drops you off opposite the Empire Theatre in town (Commutation Row is it?)  after the match (you get it from there too, prior to the match).

Have also used the soccerbus which is the bus and train combo.

Recommend either.

As well as the options above you can walk down to Breck Road which is about a 10 minute walk from the ground, and there are buses going down there very frequently into town

Or as you aren’t rushing for a train, it’s a 40 min walk. Plenty of Reds will be going that way. I always enjoy stretching my legs after the game doing post match analysis with my mate. Added benefit of avoiding a packed bus or train with Covid circulating.

Don’t know if mobility is an issue for you of course but I’ll be doing that, staying at the Premier Inn in town

Probably be better and quicker to walk - it'll take about 45 minutes and its not so bad if it doesn't rain.

Sandhills is about a 15 minute walk. Virtually all downhill on the way back.

I walk to and from Sandhills for most games. There is a Soccerbus outside but by the time you have queued up and waited for the bus to go, you can be almost there.

917 buses are handy.  The queues might look mad but they go down quickly and you just file onto whichever bus the doors happen to be open.

Generally though, I go for a pint afterwards and let it all calm down before heading to the bus.

Where's the best place to get let out of an Uber if coming from town?

What’s the difference between the 501/502 buses and the 917?  We had to queue for 30 minutes to get on the 917 after the Arsenal match.

Walk down to Breck road nearly opposite the Cabbage pub and get the 14 either arriva or stagecoach into town.

I echo this, & this is what i've always done after i've been the match, last 14 to the City Centre is around 23.15 though, 917s can take anything up to an hour to get to the City Centre after the match, because of all the traffic, the 14s is much easier, it's 10 min walk to the Cabbage Hall.

Thank you all for the suggestions for how to get back to the city centre after the match.
