Thankfully we don't have to put up with Gray any more, but I saw that clip and it's reminded me of how much I can't stand him.

It's also a reminder of how pundits have shelf lives. Other than watch lots of football, what has he actually achieved since finishing playing? What has he done to update his knowledge of the game and how it works and has developed?

He sits there like some kind of bloated sage, doling out his wisdom, to (in his mind) an audience in thrall to his supreme knowledge, hanging on his every word.

He is a footballing dinosaur, who's spent the last 30 odd years telling everyone else where they've been going wrong, dispensing his wisdom (usually in hindsight) and never having to face the consequences of his advice. First few years he was something a bit different, but the longer he was out of the game, and the more he allowed his bias and ego to take over, the worse he became.

Comparing player x with y without any thought to the role they play in the team, and how the teams may differ is completely useless.

The thing that seems even weirder to me is the way that some people seem to respond to the social media presence of businesses and converse with them as if they are their friends, at least some of the business to business stuff can sometimes be quite amusing.
