Georgia election officials under 24 hr police protection after recieving death threats, wives also under protection after receiving rape and death threats. people trying to get onto their property to get at them. they are begging the Republicans to put a stop to it.

The "why" is very simple. He likes power. He has no clue as to how to use that power, but he thinks he deserves it. He's the epitome of the foul king or butchering dictator. Make no mistake: he is a proto-Hitler and would do very similar things if he were allowed to. And people fear holding him to account because of what the believe he might do with that power if he can get away with it - hence his exhortations to his followers to rise up. Because dictatorships work by a minority cowering the majority through a fear of what the minority might do if they're challenged.

He also believes he is above the law, thinks laws are for the weak, and is mortally terrified of being held to account. He's basically at the point where he has nothing to lose. The crazy thing is that Republicans still have plenty to lose, but they wont openly challenge him on it. They're still in denial as to just how bad this might get, when you have a President itching to unleash the army against his own people.

I agree to some extent with a lot you say but he knows he's about to loose power, I don't think he has power over the majority but he does have massive influence over a very dangerous minority who he hopes the people opposed to him fear, he may have believed he was above the law while President but he's now being forced to face realty, he knows he is not above the law.
I think he's terrified of what will happen after he steps down, the only argument ive heard which makes me question this is the poster who argued Trump is only doing this rigged election crap to bring in millions of dollars to pay off his debts, could be a lot of truth in it but it wouldn't rule out him wanting people to fear holding him to account publicly after he steps down.
