Did he say what year? I spent my youth in Sefton Pk and I've never heard of terrapins there.

Me neither, but he said they have been there for about 12-14 years. He used to point them out to people in the park because they were hard to notice.

Actually just found this:

Quote
Sefton Park is one of the largest green spaces in south Liverpool. Popular with families, couples, cyclists, fisherman and doggies, you cannot fail to feel relaxed here. There are several areas of water with the obligatory ducks, swans and even a few terrapins. More than likely these were chucked in as babies but are now pretty damn huge! There are plenty of places where you can set up camp for the day and even hold a barbeque (please be careful).

The terrapins thing rings a vague memory to me, I think they were big fuckers if I remember correctly. Is it true that the lake feeds an underground stream that runs under Aigburth Road and into Otterspool Park?

I think there's a giant tap by the landing stage which can open the feed to drain the lake although if you go down to that stream there used to be a constant slow flow so it must be permanently open slightly to manage the lake depth.
There used to be some fantastic carp in that lake, I caught a 6lb one which was tiny compared to others. Massive Pike also.

EDIT: lol, a giant tap - I'm pitcuring it myself now. Does an underground valve sound better.

The 'we play here' on that map is we used to play footy every Tuesday night and Sunday mornings. Ended in a 13 side sometimes coz some people couldn't be told to fuck off.

They've just brought the Shaftsbury Memorial back today, I notice a police motorcycle with it's flashing blue light come down so I waited to see what else came down. Eros was already there on another wagon waiting for the main part to arrive.

No.

Lottery money is available until the end of next year so they are going to try to drag the work out as much as possible.

To be fair, it is looking a bit better, some of the islands and that seem to be finished.
Nothing has been done to the cafe area though and the new playground is still not finished.

Taking so long though, year 08 and all that, they have really made it look as shit as possible.

Its a compound to keep machinery on and an office thing . They are also using the shite from the lakes to smooth out the field and sort out the drainage problem the field had.

Sounds like the first steps towards a car park to me.

The next time anybody walks past the new kids playground have a look at the shape of the climbing frame.

A very peculiar symbol for a kids playground me thinks.

Condescending twat mate. If the person is into freedom of choice blah, blah then whjere was the choice of the residence who had to look at that everyday for a week ?

They should have posted leaflets through the letteboxes a week before informing us.

Walked around yesteday, bits and pieces look better, but the lake is still drained and looks absolutely awful, theres loads of fencing and stuff lashed everywhere, and the cafe is still the same(thought it was getting done up). New kids playground is pretty good though, and there seems to be alot of trees gone and the park feels very open, unless thats just cos its winter. seems you can see alot more stuff and further, if that makes sense.

No. The fence is only about two foot tall anyhow. The playground wasn't in the original draft for the park and shouldnt be there. The reason to take down all those healthy trees ( not the diseased ones ) was to restore the park to what it was like when it was first built. Meaning no playground! Also, why put the playground on the small field where all the Lark Laners chill in the summer and smoke spliffs? For those who say the park is big enough for them to sit elsewhere the surley they coul dhave put the playground elsewhere. Possibly by the lake on Aigburth drive by the small car park.

Also, there are sometimes lodas of youths there of a night which makes my walk through the park home from The Lane a bit moody.
