3rd party people who've been working on Apps for it claim it's running iPhoneOS 3.2 so i'd doubt it's anywhere near core 2 duo levels, probably going to be snapdragon

If its running the same OS as the iPhone, it will be the same CPU architecture (i.e. ARM)

I wonder will it be locked down like the iPhone. That would kill it I think.

Of course it will. Apple's single largest revenue stream is the application store and iTunes.

exactly, for shame paul, for shame

i can just imagine browsing the web on the iTablet, you come across across a site with a nice pdf brochure you want to see, you click on it and it loads the appstore so you can buy a pdf viewer :)

flash will also be a no go as well, not that i blame apple for that (though it is partly their fault for it running so shit on osx)

You know you'll only be able to buy eBook off iTunes. I do fancy an eBook reader but:

a. I don't need one with telephony funtions (i.e. another contract with o2).
b. It would have to be able to ready PDF eBooks so I can get them less than legitimately.

The ASUS concept eBook reader looked the dogs' but it seems to have gone a bit quiet.

you get to pay over the odds for the tablet, then pay for a 3g contract with it, then pay for all your content because it can't run divx, only .mov or h264, you can only get ebooks on it via itunes etc

if they lock it down it's worthless in my opinion

they will lock it down because lets face it, it's not going to sell in massive numbers but those who do buy it will shell out a fortune to apple

the 3Gs costs £450-550 Pay as you Go and i can't see this device costing the same or less so we are looking at £600-800

im guessing £750 but we will know for sure in 4 hours time

I've been reading around in the build-up to this (yes, I do have too much time on my hands) and the "experts" seem to think that while the OS is likely to be based on that of the iPhone it won't just be a straight lift, there will be a new UI. Thinking about it that makes sense: even a 7 inch would look a bit naff with iPhone icons blown up 4 times, let alone the possible 10 inch. And thinking about how long this has taken Apple to get to market, it is very unlikely that this will just be some cobbled together effort. Whilst we all seem sure how the device will look physically, I am sure Mr Jobs has some delightful surprises still up his sleeve.

gizmodo usually do good live blogs

http://gizmodo.com/5457641/apple-tablet-event-liveblog-+-january-27?skyline=true&s=i

Loved this:

Jason Chen:
"Attendee baldness ratio remains unchanged. No more, no less. But there is no sun, so the glare isn’t too bad."

I hope they're right about feedback from the keyboard - would be lovely to have that on the iPhone now.

Apple only release something when it really works well. In the case of this potential product, it's a giant iPhone, so they must have some nifty features that really make it stand out, otherwise why bother. Ok it'll be a media platform for the next ten years and will allow them to build up industry like the way the Apps have evolved and grown, but we know and use this, so there must be something that gives it that special 'i' factor that will make it worth the development and hype? It's Apples way after all.

Looking forward to this. Not so much because of the product itself, but because seeing Apple launching a new product is the lynchpin of marketing.

I guess I'll get one of those things though...
