Yeah. He generally sticks to the cowboy chords, rarely explores different voicings that could better support the melody.

Liverpool's #1!  Love how he communicates so directly using a high line.

He really has to be an artist by this point, not to have at least a slight mangle or swollen knuckle to his biggest digit.  So many keepers' hands are meat puppets by the time they retire.

It was pretty obvious both teams were playing at the back to try and pull the opposition up the pitch to create space to attack into- there was a few occasions it worked for us too.

But some in the crowd really do poo their pants and have no bottle in situations like last night, a guy behind me in the Kop was shouting 'Just get rid of it you fat bastard' and others had bottled it too. Bet these people long for a Pickford who will just smash it 70 yards up the pitch and out of play!

Maybe the makeup of the makeshift defence?

They seemed to settle down after the first 15 minutes or so but you could see the relative ease with which Bayern played the ball to and fro with Neuer.

I don't think hes ever gonna get used to Alisson.
if I came home to allison in bed with my wife I'd ask him to phone Virgil to see if he wanted to pop round too.

He won't get used to modern football then ;D

This is where development has been going for a while, and the new keepers coming through will all be the "11th outfield player"

Not too sure they're coming through as good keepers though!

He does make me nervous at times but I don't think its a 'whats going on' situation, looks pretty straightforward. Doesn't want to just hammer it long, looks up to see who he can play the ball to, at times, the option is cut off so he adjusts to do something different and in that time the attacker has closed the gap, he has to hurry which as you will see from any player in the game, can result in a pass that isn't the best.

We don't play 'just lump it' football in defence, its clear we look to play out from the back and has been that way for some time, it was the case with Karius and it was the same with Mignolet. When you have the ball in defence, hitting it long can obviously result in simply gifting possession to the opposition which just piles pressure back onto your defence or similarly can result in the ball going out for a throw which in turn has the same result.... you pile pressure back onto your own side. The way we play comes with the risk that sometimes we will see Alisson pressured and even dispossesed, this can sometimes lead to misplaced passes or mixups at the back, it happens to each and every side with a 'sweeper keeper', the oppositions keeper being a prime example, i've seen Neuer fuck up at the back numerous times with the same sort of thing, in fact Alisson did it against us last season and ended up near enough at the corner flag with Salah in possession. It WILL happen sometimes, we just need to ensure it doesn't become a regular thing and so far this season I can think of maybe 3 or 4 games it happened at a concerning level and 1 single goal we've conceded as a direct result of it. What pisses me off personally is the insane focus the pundits and commentators put on it as if they're willing us to concede from it.

I'd much rather see us continue with this style of play than go to booting it long. Food for thought, we've scored more goals as a result of this tactical approach, hitting teams on the counter than we have conceded as a result of it

I have no problem with him choosing to pass the ball under pressure. If anything I want him to keep doing it. One play closer to him means there must be a gap elsewhere for him to pass the ball to.

The only problem I got with him was one occasion where he failed to lift the ball in the air and kicked it straight into a Bayern player.

That will happen though, its no different to an outfield player fucking up the final pass that puts us in on goal at the other end. Obviously the risk is higher because its the keeper but its just part and parcel of that style of play, he won't always make the pass. Funny thing is you see a fraction of the focus put on all the great passes he makes or all the moments of sublime composure to retain possession AND find a teammate
