Why did I read that expecting to read how you had trained a load of cats a few years ago............

Not just any cats. One of them played for Inter Meow, under Oscar Tabbyreta. I told them to sign for Litterpool though.

Ah, the official UEFA match report doesn't mention that. Who did you draft in, then? That's a big loss down that right flank.

Cats should not be kept inside, unless of course they're living in a flat with only a balcony. You're denying them having a natural cat life. They're hunters. What the hell are they going to hunt when they're locked up inside all day and night. They're much happier being let outside aswell. You can't keep a cat indoors for selfish reasons. You can hardly call it a trade off when the cat isn't able to give you an opinion as to whether it's fair or not.

I can tell you that my indoor cats were very happy and well-adjusted - they couldn't tell me that, because they don't speak English, but I could tell. Of course it is more natural for them to be outside, but it's not always feasible for them to go out. Where I was living at the time, it was just too dangerous, between the traffic and the dogs and many other things. Here in Bangkok if I had one, it would be threatened by giant fuckoff lizards and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's just not an absolute that they should be let outside - they've been getting domesticated for a long time and they are OK with living inside if they are used to it from a young age. And to answer your question, they hunted my socks  ;)

Well done for getting a black cat too. For some reason, they are rarely adopted these days, to the extent that Cats Protection and other charities are having to have special promotion days.

Sorry if I misunderstood your first post. Good to know the little cutie is going to have a great family.

My little rascal just after I got him home. He was rescued from a terrible home by my vet and I, and the next day after getting his anti-flea treatment, pretty much half his body weight fell off in tiny dead friends.

He's still really vocal.

It's heartbreaking that people still have these unbelievably stupid superstitions about black cats and that they're the last to go at a shelter. My fiancé would tell me about black/black and white kittens that would be at her shelter for far longer than the other kittens. I love black and white cats, when I was young my first cat was one and I can't understand why people have such a problem with them. The one above is lovely and already has the Batman look down ready for any comic book loving owner!

Too right, Johnno. I try to slip little life lessons into my classes when I teach (for example, the Chelsea fan is now known as "Dummy") and I have found several occasions to bring this up, that black cats are not evil or unlucky or any other stupid discriminatory shite. I always encourage them to make sure they treat the black cats fairly and remind the students that the black cats need love too.

Yes!  Black and white cats are the best cats.  As mentioned by another poster black / black and white cats are routinely overlooked in favour of 'prettier' colours but I think they're awesome.  Our little Holly was a black a white cat and she was the greatest pet ever.  Our other cat is a black one and there are two black cats living next door.

EDIT: Moggyfied due to spelling error.

^ I've personally always felt black cats were among the bossest of all, even as a little kid. They're designed for stealth so there's scope for loads of fun with little bright eyes checking you out in the darkness, and they have that slinky Bagheera cool about them.

One of my beloved pets growing up was a black tom who just literally wandered into our house one day as a stray kitten and refused to leave, the cheeky little blighter. He turned on the charm so much none of us could bear to shut him out in the end, and of course as a little lad I fell in love with him running up to me and headbutting me affectionately on our very first meeting as if he'd known me years. He was awesome, a proper little mate, and is sorely missed.

Glad this thread is here, so I can ask a daft question. I'd love to get a cat, but I live on my own and there are days where I'm basically not home because of work. Would it be cruel to get a cat? What's the longest a (non-ferral) cat could manage on their own? I've seen the shelters say you can't get one when you're away from home for more than four hours a day?

As long as there's food and water but it'd probably be bored out of its mind and go crazy.

The answer would be to get two.

It deopends where you stay to be honest, theirs days where i leave for work at 8am and am not home till 10 at night but my cat tends to sleep all day and then go out at night coming back in the house around 4/5am  i leave a cat litter tray and fill his plate with food aswell as some water but other than that hes happy to lay about all day, but has the option to go out but chooses not to or if he does he'll go a wander round the estate and come back in through my bedroom window.
Cats are differnt from dogs they want to be left alone and dont really need looking after

We leave our cat all day while we're at work, she goes out all day,  works well :) cats sleep for like 18 hours a day.
