A mate of mine has been getting a bit fat over the last few years since uni. Stopped playing sports, got a sit down job and drank plenty. Since November he's lost 17kilos and is now as thin as me. (I'm 5'8, and hover a kilo above or below 60).

All he did was cut down on booze so it's weekends only, cut down on the amount of sugar he ate, drank plenty of water, and stated to run about 30 minutes every few days.

I'm really impressed. He's totally changed his appearance and says he feels much happier and more confident. The problem is that now his work suits don't fit him!

Another thing I did as a goal of sorts when I was trying to lose weight, I bought a pair of jeans that I really wanted, which were quite expensive as well. A proper treat if you like. The twist being, I bought them in the size I was aiming for (32") rather than the size I was currently at (36") - which instantly gave me a material reward to aim for along with the weight loss.

It was a sweet moment when I tried them on and could (finally) do up the top button without laying on the bed and sucking everything in to the point where I was losing consciousness I can tell you.

It's a good idea. A goal is essential. How long did it take you to shift the 4"?

It was a few years ago now so the details are a little sketchy but it was around 4-5 months if I recall correctly. I lost a bit too much really, if I look back. I went right down to 10.5 stone and a 30" waist at one point (I'm 6"1).

I've since put on a couple of stone but that has been through weight training and maintaining regular cardio and a balanced diet, rather than reverting to poor habits and regaining the fat. It was a lifestyle change.

I agree though, a goal is absolutely vital. Without a reason you won't maintain it long term.

I tore my cruciate and haven't really ran properly since Novemeber. Used to play 5-a-side twice or three times a week. Since I've been out I've really piled on the pounds (I wasn't exactly skinny before getting injured). So 6 weeks after my op I'm deciding to try get back on the fit trail.

I've been eating healthily since Monday, brown toast, eggs, chicken, brown rice etc. and have lost 3.5kgs* (comparing first thing in the morning on Monday to first thing this morning). I work in a shop in the airport and seeing all the people buy massive bags of everything for their 8 hour flight is pretty tempting but so far I've only had one thing I "shouldn't" have had. It does get a bit tough, I've been getting headaches and just feeling a bit whoosey but that's probably the change of sugar levels, tea with no sugar for me these days.

Reading this thread and all the success stories made me give it a shot. I've no goal yet but I'll be sure to set one soon. So, cheers callanlfc5times and RAWK.

*I initially said 3.5lbs by mistake.

Do defo need a goal of some sorts.

Ive got a graph where I log my weight vs the week.

I've targeted to lose one pound each week.
So I should be near 12st by Xmas (started at 15st 2lbs) - now at 14st 9lbs after just 4 weeks.

I'm cutting out the carbs

I've cut out any sort of crisps/chocs in the last few days, eaten meals only, replaced white bread with brown and sausage butties with fruit and fibre cereal. The proper cricket season is just getting underway too so hoping to be training 4/5 days a week. Really determined to do this, sick of being a blob.

Lost about 3 pounds in 4 days, I know weight loss at the start is more exaggerated but its a start.

My goal is to wear my Kappa Sampdoria jersey and not feel like a blob in it. I've loads of t-shirts that fit but they're a bit too tight for me at the moment that I'd love to wear. That's my aim. To feel comfortable in my clothes.

You sound like you have a skinny-fat body type. This should give you some help on that

http://stronglifts.com/how-to-lose-the-skinny-fat-look-forever/

Reading that, I am definetly within the skinny fat group. I dont have that big an appetite so reading that undereating can also lead to the skinny fat look was interesting. I go to the gym every day (its in my office) and play football but I booze way too much which I think is my main problem.

Drinking 8 pints of milk a day though, to me that sounds absolutely insane, I'm willing to give it a go along with limiting my drinking. I'm sure I've said that before though...!

I've got a big pot of home made vegetable soup on the go now, I'll more than likely snack on that tonight. I know for a fact that I'll fall off of the wagon, off out with my friends tomorrow night.

I guess this kebab debate can be solved by simply not going out and getting plastered as a result of consuming copious amounts of beer, shots and god knows what else

Given the choice between having a salad, or a big portion of fish and chips after a night out on the booze, fish and chips wins every time. ;D

sauce on top is the freshest thing in a kebab shop (ive worked in one ) - most kebab sauces are made with fresh yougurt, milk, tomatos chilies and thats it no chemicals should be added

also i once had a pita bread filled with spicy onions and covered it in the sauce its actually quite

But the cheeseburgers?! They are amazing.

When I was abroad recently though, in Asia. I noticed that McDonals is very very different from country to country. So I suppose the cheeseburgers are really special here in Sweden. The UK don't know how to make 'em, neither to America and rest of the world ;)
