Genk away
« on: August 30, 2019, 02:16:05 pm »
9 of us booked on this, Eurostar and then train to Hasselt. In and out of Genk on match day (doesn't seem to be a lot there) and then back the day after the match.

Looks like about a 1K allocation so will probably be 11 of the last 12 (2 seasons) guaranteed and than a massive fight in the non guaranteed 2nd sale.

Can't wait  8)

Any questions about trains, flights, buses, whatever in Belgium, you can ask me, I live in Olen, about 30-45 minutes drive from Genk.

Getting an away ticket won't be possible, but I'm trying to get a ticket in the home section for me and me dad.

Hi Mate. How easy will/would it be to get back to Hasselt after the game?

Last train back to Brussels seems to be 9.07pm, is that right or am I missing one? Thanks!

Am I being thick here.

There are not hotels in Genk? What are you supposed to do after the game after we've been kept behind until 11:30pm onwards?

Ive seen a train from Eindhoven to Maastricht  then may get a taxi from Maastricht. My mate doesnt get to Eindhoven til 1.45pm so its gonna be a bit of a scramble. He is not sure about hiring a car as insurance etc make it a bit pricey. How much will a cab be do you reckon ? I reckon getting the train is the cheapest option but won't be getting to Genk til about 5pm or 6pm I reckon.

For those going via Amsterdam - Chelsea are playing there. We were going to stay there Tuesday but getting the train straight from Schiphol to Antwerp now. Night there and on to Genk Wednesday. Splits up the journey nicely. About 2 hours on each train.

I can't work it out either mate. I'd opt for Hasselt or Maastricht but seems a gamble at the moment not having a clue how you'd get to them.

Mates got one of the few hotels in Genk but we just missed the last room so after 3h on various sites I went for Hasselt which sounds better in a way. 20m on the stopping train from Genk so reckon we could share a taxi back as there are a few of us.

Thanks exCite for the help. Details of taxi firms would be useful! :wave Any idea of cost?

Sorted mine earlier - just the 1 night, flights to Brussels and train to Hasselt. I also spent many hours and gave up on the Genk hotel ideal.
Not really sure where I'll be able to 'sight see'. Not sure Hasselt or Genk is really worth a day?

Stadium appears to be a bit out of it. Am slightly worried about getting back so keeping a close on this thread towards the date.

Or if there are any public transport options? Must be some as 20,000 people must have to get home somehow - I'd imagine a fair few like in surrounding cities?

I've got a Eurostar booked to Brussels - basically a half day at work, the night in Genk then back to work the next morning. Think i have a ticket, hopefully.

Finding a cheap (I'm talking hostel levels of cheap!) place seems impossible in Genk/nearby that night. Anyone planning to go back to Brussels straight after with space for one, perhaps? Can split £!

I've reading up on the thriving metropolis that is called Genk.

The first county it was in was called the County of Loon  ( 12 - 13th C ) ;D

The names are quiet funny too . Me and me mate are staying in Winterslag which is something to do with mining industry around there I reckon. When I first seen the district Winterslag and called my mate his response was  " Well it's a shame it's only October lad ".

Well guys,

Your best bet to find a hotel is either Hasselt, Diepenbeek or Maastricht.
I'd say, reserve a taxi beforehand:

There's an area map on that website as well.

Pretty sure I have the earliest bus booked - 5am leaving Genk, arriving 6.49am.

That said, I reckon there'll be a fair amount of people trying to make it back ASAP. Share taxis etc maybe?

A bit of a long shot.

Iam in Eindhoven on the Monday and my mate arrives on the 1.45pm from Dublin. We've decided to get a cab and the cheapest is 90 rips. If anyone is on that flight or arrives around that time you're welcome to jump in.

Live in Belgium myself and 50-60euros for a 10mile trip is a total rip off. Fare should be around 20-30euros but the cabbies know demand will be there so they ask those bellend prices. I’d deffo try to negotiate the price as that worked out pretty well for myself in the past.

Ticketwise, sale of ‘CL season tickets’ for non-season ticket holders starts Thursday, prices beginning from €145 for the 3 games. I’m buying one of these with some mates and trying to sell on the other two games (shouldn’t be a big problem). If these don’t sell out, tickets will be available for only the liverpool game. Anyone travelling without tickets, let me know if you want me to look for a ticket at the home end.  8)

Guaranteed sale should be 12 from the 13 and a few hundred left for people with 11.

It will either be that or they might not even include Moscow because the lowest allocation was the match after that, Maribor, so if they just go back to that, 12/12 will be guaranteed which will leave those on 11/12 scrapping over the few hundred left.

It will be 1 or the other though.

Are you saying the few hundred that actually traveled shouldn’t be rewarded and someone with 10/12 not Moscow and Maribor) from the last 2 seasons should have the same chance on a ticket that someone that did travel to Moscow but didn’t qualify for a Maribor ticket :duh   :o

Because they normally go back to the 1st match that has a lower allocation then the match in question, so the lowest allocation before Genk was Maribor, not Moscow.

I never said that the club will do this, I said that they ‘might’ do this. I also said that it will be 1 or the other. I don’t know what the club will do, neither do you, it’s all guesswork  ::)

We didn't take anymore to Moscow then we did Maribor though despite the bigger allocation, certainly didn't sell out. Fully expect it to be included.

Fucking hope so anyway cause having 12 from 12 is my justification for not spunking £60+ on a Napoli credit!

That’s a good point. Another reason why they ‘might’ include it is because most people that went to Maribor would have gone to Moscow as well so I can’t see there being much difference between those with 11 from the last 2 seasons to those with all 12.

They shouldn’t even be thinking about ‘might’ not using it as that would fuck people over.
Can’t remember them not using a full seasons worth of credits but just a few? You got an example of this happening?
And just because you can’t see there being much difference between those on 11 and 12 surly they on 11 shouldn’t be put in the same sale as them on 10?

And just like Doug here not everyone is buying if they’re not going, they need to count every credit the same. Moscow with proof of travel surly can’t be more than the Maribor allocation anyway?

Can’t really figure out if you think not using Moscow is a good idea or if you just saying that might be the TO way of thinking?

I initially offered an alternative as to what they ‘might’ do whilst agreeing that they would either do what I suggested or what you suggested...why is that so hard to understand?

Personally I think that they should use both Maribor and Moscow, not that my personal opinion matters in the slightest, neither does yours.

i watched the chelsea game at my sisters. her 12 year old son is severly autistic and i forgot myself and jumped up screaming at the goal and he went nuts. screaming and shouting. scared the fuck out of me. apologised to my sister as i thought id upset him, turns out he was joining in.
