That's a shame as it's always good to return the hospitality.

Did Nige manage to get the tickets he was asking about ?

Still after one ticket for next Tuesday for one of their organisers (who missed the match last week 'cos of work !).

we'll meet her & a few others from their organisation on Tuesday afternoon in town, but nobody who actually played in the match itself is coming over.

And yes Pata, we'll do something similar again as soon as possible.

Hmm ... maybe I'll try to invite Dave Squiggle along next Tuesday to play some guitar around town as he did for the Beşiktaş fans exactly a year ago ?

[see p-m Dave]

[see p-m Dave]

And less than an hour later a guerrilla gig is being arranged in the Cavern pub, about 2-3 pm next Tuesday we hope. The Beşiktaş fans LOVED it last year.

Harry tell the ref if he likes Oasis etc he's going to love Dave's stuff !

WATCH THIS SPACE !

[It will have to be an early afternoon thing though cos away Euro fans always want to get up to anfield by about 3-4pm, so soz to those who have to miss it working like]

Speaking to The Cavern Pub tomorrow. Should be a laugh. Anyone fancy taking a few flyers to hand around cos The Ragamuffins are doing quite a decent gig in town on the Wednesday night and I want a good crowd.

Sorry about the short notice but if you're gonna be in town  this afternoon Tuesday before the match, Dave - Red Squiggle - of the brilliant band The Ragamuffins will be helping entertain some of our Spanish guests around 2-3pm in a guerilla gig at the Cavern Pub (not club), or just round the corner at the Slug and Lettuce or somewhere, or both . .. that's the thing with guerrilla gigs, you just sort of ambush the punters and the barstaff when they are least expecting it. If you p-m me your number before 9 in the morning you'll be one of the first to know (or after that you'll just have to convince someone off here to trust you with my number)

The  Ragamuffins, in all their muti-faceted indie pop glory, play the Metropolitan, Berry Street on Wednesday night, 5th November, as part of the arl MTV awards Liverpool festival thingy.

Here's a lovely picture of Dave entertaining the Beşiktaş outside the Slug and Lettuce exacty a year ago. So he must be a lucky charm or something cos that was the 8-0 game.

  • I'll be waiting, with a gun & a pack of sandwiches
Nothing much to add I'm afraid but had to say thanks...

...thanks Nige for organising
...thanks everyone else for being such great teammates
...thanks to the crowd for genuinely making my spine tingle
...thanks to the Atleti boys for giving us a bit of a football lesson but mostly for being so damn friendly
...thanks for the photos and video links here everyone

Without a shadow of a doubt it was the most fun I've ever had playing football and, without being too corny, it was an honour to be part of it!

...even though it damn near killed me!

(PS I'm the grinner with the match ball in our team photo)

I know it's a crazy old thread but with tonight's match coming up I've been reminiscing, hope no one minds the bump.

13 years on this was one of the absolute highlights of my European travels following Liverpool. Such a great evening, on the pitch and in the bar. I hope you get to read this Nige, you organised something really special and I want to thank you again. Hope the rest of you guys are all good if you read this

I remember this too!

Harry Trow !!!

I think we were asked to keep the noise down in the bar afterwards or the Police would come around. I don't think we could help ourselves so it was time to go. Might have been about 4 in the morning. Brilliant times.
