If it's 0-0 in a game and one of the teams has missed 3 easy chances , and a commentator says they should be 3-0 up.... no they'd be 1-0 up, and whilst they may get other chances to score, they wouldn't then get the same, identical chances they'd missed.

A goal completely changes the dynamic of the game. The team might not be as aggressive in attack.

So what's the signal all about??

Ive always thought it was to indicate near or far post

I remember once he was in too much of a rush to make a signal, it turned out well though.

By way of annoyed balancing, watch any Arsenal central defender every time the ball is played in the air toward a forward with their back to goal. Hands all over the shoulders, blatant shoves in the back, fouls every time but rarely called by the match official.

Yep. I have a list in my head of CBs who regularly get away with what should be penalised as fouls. Both Arsenal CBs are at the top; Tarkowski and Andersen not far behind. Then there are old-fashioned hatchet men who would have thrived in the ‘70s; Yates at Forest is a prime candidate, Norgaard at Brentford another; then there’s Spuds very own Bentancur.

A couple of years ago, Jenas and possibly Lescott did a piece for MOTD2 that absolutely hammered Van Dijk and Liverpool for playing a 'disastrous' high line. And then proceeded to show three clips, two of them where we caught their player offside perfectly.

As if it is luck that we were extremely well drilled, played attackers offside more than anyone else in the league, and had also intentionally bought the best keeper in the world at one-on-ones, to mitigate the risk of the high line.

Certainly wound me up.

Was it against Burnley the other season where they were caught offside 3 or 4 times in the first half, on MOTD that night they highlighted how lucky we were and that Burnley could have scored 3 or 4 goals. Erm, no, our offside trap worked as it should so why are we the ones getting criticised for it?

My main current pet peeves are time wasting goalies who either flop to the floor after making an easy save or faff around for 30 seconds before just hoofing upfield anyway, and also the number of professional footballers who can't seem to take a proper throw in.

God yes,  the butterfly effect, so many people don't understand this. The game would reset after a goal and would play out totally differently.

Ball goes into the box and you hear the roar of "away!"  Like you're going to head it towards your own net.
Or players throwing the arms up in the air at the crowd multiple times in a match

A defender being pretty much blocked in on the touchline/goalline and under pressure from one of our attackers and thinking 'Dont foul him, dont foul him' and then fouling him.

I might have posted this before, couldn't be arsed looking :)

I can't believe how almost every single damn throw-in is taken yards and yards away from the place the ball went out.

every player - on every team - goes for a walk after picking up the ball, then breaks into a short run to get momentum.  and the refs and linos ignore it 99% of the time, even when it's 100% obvious what he's doing.

a yard either way is fine (obviously impossible to pinpoint the exact position) but ffs it's a joke at this stage.  many throws are taken 10-15 yards away.

Keepers dropping on the ball

Players ripping their socks around the calf area. How tight can they actually be? They wear brand new socks every game. We had socks that were years old. Getting them on was practically our pre-match warm-up!

Players getting a booking when accidently catching the opponent's foot that he dangled out in mid-air in a vain attempt to block a clearance. It's an accidental collision & it never even used to be a free kick, let alone a booking and yet it's just accepted. Why?

Managers not being told to stay/get back in their box/zone

Players doing heart signs with their hands

Tiny shinpads. If it is a legal requirement to wear shinpads - which it is within the laws of the game - it must be for a reason, ie protection. These tiny new ones can't be offering any protection or VERY minimal at the most! Either wear proper ones or drop the pretence and go back to shinpads being optional. The tiny ones are neither one thing nor the other

The amount of foul throws that are just ignored

When a manager is suspended for a game and sits in the stands with direct communication to his coaches. He's suspended! He shouldn't be allowed to communicate with them. I'd ban them from the dressing room at half-time too.

The six second rule for keepers virtually never being enforced.

There was discussion on this in the totally football podcast recently as someones done a full review of it and how much distance people gain etc. Apparently in the Porto champions league final, one of their players accumulatively gained over a foot pitch worth of distance at throw ins.

It’s so strange how ignored it is
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

The length of time free-kicks out side the box take.
2-3 minutes must pass from the moment of the foul to the actual kick. The player lining it up and the ref getting involved every time over the jockeying for position.
Does me fucking nut in.

Goal kicks, come on its getting silly now with defenders standing in the box to either pass to the keeper or the keeper to take it.
