I hated Luton in that era, they had a chairman, David Evans, who was a complete c*nt [& racist too] he was a Thatcherite Tory MP. After the Millwall riot, Luton introduced a membership scheme which effectively banned away fans, then installed that plastic pitch [Astroturf], that pitch was completely different from a standard grass pitch [although most grass pitches in those days were mud baths, sort of resembling the Somme, come November], it was like playing football on concrete, the ball bounced like a rubber ball, keepers had to wear tracky bottoms so they didn't get skin burns when making a dives & you had to be careful when making sliding tackles. Preston, Oldham & QPR were the others that had the plastic pitch too.

They also banned away fans for a bit. It's funny when you heard ' Liverpool  ( clap clap clap ) Liverpool ( clap clap clap ) during one of the games live on telly. It's in Nicky Allt's book that one.
