Yep, had we not won at Chelsea, Everton vs West Ham was 2 days after that match, a win by either team would have seen them winning the title, a draw would have us win the title, we had the better GD too.  I remember Neville Southall doing his ankle ligaments in in an International near the end of that season & was out for the remainder of the season, including the cup final, that cost the Ev big time too.

https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/1530

Side note, i think that match 85/86, was our last win at Stamford Bridge in the league at least until 2008/09 season

No we won there in 2003/04 - Cheyrou scored ;D

We beat them 5-2 under Kenny around 89/90 ish. We did go ages without a win there in the Premier League era but somehow won in 2002/03 during Bruno Cheyrou’s ‘purple patch’ that lasted all of 3 games I think.

Diouf was sent off when Mutu jogged past him, fell over his own shoe laces and the ref showed a second yellow. Diouf was minding his own business (for a change) at the time.

It was just about the only time you could muster any sort of sympathy for him.

I think Dudek had to go off injured towards the end and Patrice Luzi (?) came on. Had forgotten all about that mad game until now.

Wasn't it that Mutu's stoods got caught in Diouf's laces? Either way, a ridiculous decision. Similar to Alonso getting sent off for slipping into I think Fabregas. The referee had his head turned, looked back to see them both on the floor.

Yes he did, we had a semi boycott cos it was £49 a ticket. I think we took half the normal East Stand allocation, from the half way to Mathew Harding.
Luzi played about the last 10-15. I remember we were just singing his name to the Patrick Berger song (la-la-la-la-la one), for virtually the whole time he was on the pitch. I don't think he had to do much other than claim crosses.

Shame they were up against Miller and McLeish.
I thought I read something that Hansen wasn't popular in the Scottish camp because he wouldn't give up secrets about Liverpool forwards(eg. Rush) weaknesses(I think for the Wales play-off game) so he was blacklisted. I remember at the the time how I was astonished that Hansen didn't make the Scottish world cup squad.

The last 21 goals scored at the Hawtotns have been scored by the away team.

Heard that on The Anfield Wrap earlier, incredible!

Criminally mis-used by Rodgers. Was an early sign of everything wrong with his relationship with the transfer committee.

Read one recently.

Hungary went 4 years unbeaten (32 games) before losing in the World Cup Final in 1954 having been 2-0 up.

My Dad never got over that result!  He was 18 at the time.  Puskas scored what looked like an equaliser to make it 3-3 but was quite clearly wrongly ruled offside robbing the best side never to win a World Cup the prize they so richly deserved.  Incidentally, they'd already beaten West Germany 8-2 in the group stages.  My Dad WAS at the famous 7-1 thrashing of England in the qualifying games leading up to that tournament.
United used to win titles on easy street, time for us to take over that real estate

It's a well known fact that Shankly used just 14 players during the whole of the 65/66 campaign which saw us win the First Division and reach the European Cup Winners’ Cup final. In comparison, and very much enforced, Klopp has used (if I'm correct) 16 players to cover just the back 5 positions so far this season!

Keepers: Alisson, Adrian, Kelleher
Left back: Robertson, Tsimikas
Right back: Trent, N. Williams, Milner
Centre back (quicker to list those that haven't played, but): VVD, Gomez, Matip, R. Williams, Phillips, Fabinho, Henderson, Koumetio

Other than Koumetio's league cup appearance, all have been in important Prem or Champions League games.

And it's likely (hopefully) going to increase in the coming weeks!

Benjamin Pavard currently holds the World Cup, the Champions League, Club World Cup, the European Supercup, the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Supercup.

As Bayern manager, Hansi Flick has won more trophies than he's lost games.

Bumping this to highlight the clear fabrication in Luke Shaw and Gareth Bale both apparently being 6”1, Timo Werner and Phil Jones both being 5”11 and (perhaps the least believable of all) smaller than all of those guys is Ivan Toney who is allegedly 5”10.

Aston Villa once had Jimmy Brown and Barrie Hole on their books, along with an Argentinian called Oscar Arce. Legend has it that they had a back three of Brown, Arce and Hole - although this guy reckons it never happened. Shouldn't let the facts spoil a good story though.

Weird rule based fact.

There are no offsides for goal kicks.

If you have a shorter field and a goalkeeper who can really boot it, you can put your forwards past the defensive line and they will not be off side.

More relevant to amateur games, its a rarely used tactic on Sunday leagues to have attackers in clearly offside positions on goal kicks. You just have to hope the referee knows the rules.

Surprised City haven’t tried this as Ederson can punt them long.

We won at Wembley the second season we played Spurs there. 2-1 when Wijnaldum scored a header and Bobby got a tap in/forced an own goal.

Was it the Fairs Cup?

Yeah think when he raised it he might have meant ‘a’ European Cup rather than ‘the’ European Cup but even then that wouldn’t have made sense with Real winning stuff in the 50s.

Maybe Fairs Cup was the answer. The general point about teams from European Capitals being a bit shit in Europe (apart from Real!) is interesting though.

London, Paris, Rome, Brussels, Athens, Moscow (I could go on, there are other European capitals) all generally rubbish in Europe.

Only really Madrid, Lisbon and Amsterdam (shared capital with The Hague?) who have much to shout about.

Indeed it is Kenilworth Road, Luiz Diaz scored an equalizer in the 95th minute in a 1-1 draw, & we lost 2-1 at Blackpool one of the first premier league matches after the owl was sacked.

Unless Iam misreading the question we won there in 87/88 with a Gary Gillespie header.
