Playing around with Statsbomb's publication of their stats, I had a look at
Harry Wilson's underlying performance for Bournemouth.
He's scored 7 goals this season with an xG of 2.6. That means he's scored 4.4 more goals than the quality of his chances warranted, which isn't a surprise given how many of his goals are scored from range.
He also shoots quite a lot - about 2.68 shots every 90. For reference, that's just a bit less than Mané (2.79/90), just a bit more than Ox (2.64/90) and a fair bit more than Origi (2.31/90) and would put him at the 5th most trigger happy player in our seniors. He's a fairly uninspired shooter - his non-penalty xG/shot is .07, which again isn't surprising given the number of shots from range he takes.
His assists are fairly poor - 0, although his xA is 1.3, and he's made just under 1 key pass per game. His dribbles per 90 are around the same.
Given all the above, even accounting for Bournemouth's very poor season, I don't know if he's done enough to make a compelling case for coming into the squad next season. Jones and Elliott have furthered their claims this season to continue to be given chances, while we've signed Minamino and may sign another attacker in the summer.
Nonetheless, he's scored a very decent number of goals and may yet round out the season in double digits. That would make him a very reasonable prospect for a lower league team, perhaps a new promotee, to pay a 20m-30m sum for him.
