Anyone remember before the last two elections, where Tory twats were screaming about a UK under Corbyn government being like Venezuela?

Well we now have a government corruptly awarding £multi-million contracts to governing party donors, friends/family of senior party officials, and others with close links to the governing party.

We see party loyalists and close friends of senior party officials put in charge of state organisations and operations, despite being unqualified.

We see the impartiality of the judiciary being deliberately targeted.

We see the government seeking to place itself and its actions above the rule of law.

We see the government bringing in laws to bypass parliament and rule by decree.

We see the government bragging about breaking international treaties that don't suit them.

We see a state broadcaster used as a government propaganda mouthpiece, with governing party loyalists put in positions of control

Tell me which party makes the country more like Venezuela?

Hope not hate have released their report into the Tories and Islamophobia.

https://www.hopenothate.org.uk/2020/09/30/the-deep-roots-of-islamophobia-in-the-conservative-party/

One of the things they've done is got Yougov to survey Tory members.

Quote
* 57% of party members had a negative attitude towards Muslims, with 21% registering a very negative attitude. This is more than twice the number of those with negative attitudes towards Hindus and Jewish people, and the fifth of respondents with very negative attitudes compares with just 3% who felt the same about Jews, Hindus and Sikhs.

* Half of Conservative Party members (47%) believe that Islam is “a threat to the British way of life”, while 58% believed that “there are no go areas in Britain where Sharia law dominates and non-Muslims cannot enter”. This figure rose to 66% of those who backed Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson in the 2019 leadership election.

* Over a third of Tory members thought that Islamist terrorists reflect a widespread hostility to Britain amongst the Muslim community, compared to 53% who thought it was wrong to blame all Muslims for the actions of a violent minority. Opinion was evenly divided amongst Johnson supporters, with 44% believing the former statement and 46% the latter.

Conservative Party members hold significantly more negative attitudes towards Muslims than the general public. In a separate poll commissioned by HOPE not hate, YouGov asked the same questions in a national poll. Just under a third of the general public (30%) thought Islam was a threat to the British way of life (compared to 47% of Tory members), while 37% of the public thought that there were no go areas where non-Muslims could not enter (compared to 47% of Tory members). Conservative members were more than doubly as likely to think that Islamist terrorists reflect a widespread hostility to Britain amongst the Muslim community than in the national poll.

Distressingly, Conservative Party members refuse to believe that their party has a problem with Islamophobia:

* 79% believe that there is no problem, just 9% think there is. Among Johnson supporters this grew to 86% and fell to 4% respectively

* Only one in six party members (17%) felt that the Conservative Party should be doing more to combat Islamophobia and other racism within the party, compared to 74% who believed that the party was already doing all it reasonably can. Johnson supporters split 8% and 85% respectively

The polling represents a huge challenge to the party’s leadership, demonstrating that Islamophobia is a widely spread view within the party’s membership. This is underlined by the continued inaction, or tepid action, against members – some of whom are senior members – who engage is outright Islamophobic activity.

Javid got Johnson to promise to have an investigation into this but that's since been altered to a general 'may have a look at all forms of racism'. One of the things the EHRC need in order to investigate is Tory members who have themselves been affected by it to lodge complaints and provide evidence there's been a breach of equality law, which is a significant hurdle even to begin an investigation.

It's obviously the Tories and you are right to point this out.

But now, under Keir Starmer, the Labour party can also point it out. It couldn't under Corbyn. The hypocrisy would have been too great.

I think for a while that Patel and the 'higher-ups' in the Home Office are taking inspiration from the Australian approach to immigration. That approach does involve detaining people on Nauru and Manus whilst their immigration issues are resolved one way or another. So from that perspective the practical principle is not completely crazy (obviously the moral question is another thing entirely).

That said it seems likely that Patel's geography is not too hot and she is not particularly on the ball about where Ascension Island/St Helena are.

Imagine Boris's lot being in charge back then, building of tanks contract handed out to a old chum of Dominic Cummings with no experience of Mass production or Tanks. billions of pounds of Plane building contracts handed out to big Tory donors who end up producing sod all.

Why would it be a problem? This brexit government, with its naked appeals to xenophobia, its contempt for good governance through parliament and its general disdain for democratic principles wouldn't need a military buildup just to cheer on their natural Nazi allies.

One minute he’s a sidekick in midsummer or something, then he’s starting up some sort of (racist?) political party and addressing Tories.

Saw a thread on Twitter where his “backers” were questioned.
Apparently £5m in funding already and his PR is being handled by a right shower of Ex Torygraph/Question Time and all round right wingers who formed a company of Crisis PR types.
The Top guy is a Rugger Bugger type who was a top man at the Torygraph and very close to Johnson’s campaign for leadership, but now “regrets” his involvement somehow.
Seems like the Barclay Bros have found their Frottage.
These twats will be using the American tactic of targeting non extreme MPs to get them deselected with a threat of splitting the old white racist vote
And anyone who shows off two tattoos which can be placed together to read Freedom Space is too close to Liebenraum and the Nazis for my liking

I see the guy from Stonewall is taking legal action for Fox calling him a paedophile because he is gay.
Fox reckons he was entitled to call him that because he was called a racist for his rants.

Seen too many insurance salesmen and financial services “consultants” in suits too small for them to want to look like that
The Grealish effect.
Seriously, kecks too short jacket too tight and a big knot in the tie.  😱

Johnson's jokes without the canned laughter fall terribly flat. Even Sunak, still wearing his first suit, would do better than this.

Apparently Britain has “decided” to be the world leader in wind power.

Another car crash PMQT for Johnson today.
Same old "get behind the government restrictions" reply to answer questions.
Starmer brings up a shocking damming statistic, 20 of the lockdown areas went into lockdown with a figure of 20 per 100.000  when entering lockdown. 19 of the 20 areas figures have shot up to 200-400+ per 100.000 while in lockdown. the restrictions are clearly not working.
Johnson. get behind the restrictions blah blah blah

Starmer. what is the scientific basis for the 10pm rule.
Johnson. the object is to reduce the spread of the virus.blah blah blah.

It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.

Allegra Stratton confirmed as new press secretary and duties will include heading up ‘presidential-type’ briefings.
