I think that credits were first introduced around 2004, prior to that it was the old stub system. I went to Deportivo home in the CL 2004 and the ground was about 80% full, in that scenario it makes sense to reward loyalty because everyone could have gone, some people did and others didn’t - I got an Istanbul ticket that season with 4 home CL credits and 0 away which is totally unheard of now.

The issue you now have is that everyone is scrapping for tickets and the ones who are successful have their loyalty ‘rewarded’ by getting priority for future tickets, it’s less of an issue for cup matches because I think a big part of the reason that those games sell out, particularly the early rounds of the FA Cup and League Cup, is because of the credits and it tends to be easy enough to get a ticket if you really want to but for league games it’s not the same and demand outstrips supply a lot more often, aways are on another level entirely again, I got arsenal away in the FA Cup last season when hundreds missed out yet I now get priority for the next away (potentially allocation dependent etc) above the people that missed out, is that fair?

I do totally agree with you that it isn’t THAT hard to get tickets you’re willing to refresh enough, albeit some of them may end up being ST returns which don’t carry a credit, but that being the case, I think there’s an argument to just leave things as they are and those that want to go enough will tend to have their endeavours rewarded by getting a ticket, ST return or not, over someone who has potentially built up 19 credits on a burner phone for example.

No easy answer to any of it of course and people will rightly say that refreshing becomes a lot harder if you don’t have an office job and/or you need pairs rather than singles to take a child or whatever.

Spot on.

There’s going to be a group of fans properly pissed off by whatever changes are coming and I fully expect it to be me. 🤣

Everyone got sorted for chelsea and I assume the same for city in a few weeks, but my Q is, as a 4+ who missed out on Man U; what's your thoughts on getting sorted late?

any thoughts on this? I think it got lost in the loyalty chat

I would imagine you’ll be fine on the late availability for united home on 4 credits if the previous year or so is anything to go by. You never know but even City home was easy enough and Klopp’s last game ended up dropping to to 3 credits (at least, might have even been 2 I can’t remember).

Will depend on when they do the sales and the registration period, with it being early January it might be a bit easier. I remember Chelsea last season with the sale timing, end of Jan, people are skint etc was quite easy.
