He was always well disposed towards Liverpool and was one of the few not afraid to criticise Ferguson which as far as I'm concerned he gets brownie points for, considering so few of his other colleagues did.

The bloke’s been commentating on football for about 40 years and I’m not sure he’s enjoyed a single second of it.  If he did he never sounded like it. He was either too cold, too high up, too exposed to the wind or the rain, or the tea wasn’t very nice, or the game was rubbish, or the fans were too noisy/the fans were too quiet.

I’ve not listened to five live commentary for years, so it’s no great loss to me. I’d struggle to think of an iconic bit of commentary from him from the years I did listen though.

Alan Green is brilliant. One of the best there's been, for me. It's depressing that they're phasing him out for interchangeable new voices with not one fraction of the character.

There's a good reason he's not on the list; because he's boss. His flagship LFC commentaries are right up with the best for evocative, spine-tingling glory

Reckons Mane and Salah hate each other so they’ll both be sold this summer. No evidence or explanation presented for this, they just do, alright?

The best players in the world want to play for Real Madrid,  But Madrid are going to buy Mbappe so Salah will go to PSG instead.  No explanation as to why Salah, who supposedly desperately wants to play for Madrid, would go to PSG but why worry about that when you’re having a fantasy wank over us falling apart?

Mané will be off to Barcelona.  We put in that clause to stop Barcelona buying any of our players for no reason it seems as he’s definitely off. 

Oh and Van Dijk will go as well. He hasn’t decided where yet as he’s too busy creaming himself over the image of Mané in a Barca shirt to make anything up.

Of course we’ll not replace any of these at all so we’re going to struggle over the next few years.

Indeed, it's thew wider picture, clubs are going to lose money from SKY/BT Sport, ecc because of no matches, then there's promotion & relegation, how would you feel if you're Leeds & West Brom, & the teams in playoff spots, having the season cancelled then having to restart in the Championship.

 This season has to be concluded even if it takes until November with matches behind closed doors.

For me the pundits are just trying to wind us up, but it's the wider picture now.

No more mainstream media for me until football is back.

I watched the extended highlights on ITV of the England v Cameroon match from Italia 90 a couple of weekends ago. He was doing it then as well, loads of “we need to be careful here” and “they’re causing us problems.”

I think it may have been exclusively an ITV thing back then, I’m pretty sure the BBC were a lot better at referring to “England”, and aside from Barry Davies’ famous “oh NO!” when Southgate missed his pen in 96 they didn’t show their colours too much.

I liked Brian Moore back in the day. The way he used to say “It’s in there!” and then always emphasise the goal scorer “by John Barnes”.

Some of his comments seem a bit dated now though. I saw some of that Harry’s Heroes nonsense the other week and they showed a clip of Stuart Pearce crying away after his penalty miss and Moore said “and I thought Stuart Pearce was meant to be a hard man”.

Don’t think it meant to come across so harsh and definitely a reflection of the times rather than Moore himself but you definitely wouldn’t hear that now!
