Whole show is him pulling birds 50 years younger than him in Yorkshire

I'd watch it  :D

Not to mention Voyager and DS9. Presumably it's not just going to be Picard still bimbling around as a starship captain, so will be interesting to see what the concept is. The long rumoured Star fleet Academy show, maybe with Picard as the Principal?

So, for instance, he's walking along, and he sees this beautiful girl, and he thinks he'd like to see her naked, and so all her clothes fall off. And she's scrabbling around to get them back on again, but even before she can get her knickers on, he's seen everything. Yeah. He's seen it all.

The Inner Light is the best episode of any version of Star Trek.
DS9's In the Pale Moonlight is second. The Best of Both Worlds is third. There are more great Picard episodes than any other character by a long way.

Yeah I saw that the other day. I'm firmly on their page here (perhaps not so much the time travel stuff but it's an interesting concept). If CBS/whoever are just going to be making more programs in Discovery's image then I can happily continue ignoring the franchise and stick with The Orville (and its no-doubt-upcoming space station spin-off Far Star Seven).

Think it will be very different to what they suggest. Unlikely to be another ship-based show, first because it would be competing with Disco, but also because they already made that show. The Picard thing is a chance to make something totally different, see a new side of life in the Federation.

I would absolutely watch another space station based series like DS9. Think that type of format thrives even more these days with streaming and binge watching being more common.

Star Trek back properly in recent days with the airing of the first episode of The Orville season 2. A case study of how living in close proximity on a small starship would get really annoying!

Unfortunately Discovery is back soon as well, so for those people that need a 'Star Trek:' before their programme name, get your fix of grimdark crap soon.

Star Trek: The Orville keeps knocking it out of the park with S02E02 - "Primal Urges". Who knew that a study of porn addiction and its impact on marriage could be so compelling? Also there's a whole thing with evacuating the remaining 75 members of a species from a planet about to be destroyed, but that's just the pesky 'A' plot getting in the way of more Bortus.

Star Trek: The Orville S02E03 is a bit of a downer as we say goodbye to a main cast member (Alara), but it's okay because her interim replacement is played by Patrick Warburton. With him, Mike Henry and Seth McFarlane on board, the mess can surely be renamed the Clam.

Decent episode, Alara's dad is played by Robert Picardo (Voyager's EMH) and another major character was played by John Billingsley (Enterprise's Phlox) so the Trek Alumni out in force again.

Very much noticing a lack of anyone else commenting on this show, it's almost like nobody's interested in Star Trek anymore and is more concerned with STDs.

I enjoyed S1 of Discovery well enough when it came out, but I broadly agree with Red Letter Media's video that you posted above, in that the trailer for S2 is exactly the opposite of what I was hoping to see. They are making the same mistake as they have made with most of the Trek films, action focus and ridiculously raised stakes... doesn't appeal to any Star Trek fans and tries to cater to non-fans who already have plenty of Marvel shit to watch.  If they just accept that it's niche, surely there is still a big enough worldwide audience for it.

Yeah, I thought that it was good.  Probably the closest to a 'traditional' star trek type of episode of the series to date.  Jonathan Frakes always seems to do a good job when directing Star Trek stuff.  I think that Anson Mount's charisma helps the show too.  Still not a fan of Sonequa Martin-Green on the whole though.  Between this and The Walking Dead she seems to have a total of three facial expressions.  Liking Season 2 overall regardless.

I think one of the things that they seemed to take on board from the criticism of the first season was that there has to be a place for self-contained episodes, even if those are serving a longer arc.

Interesting to note, but it wasn't the fact that it was a self-contained episode that I was referring to when describing it as 'traditional', but more the format of the story itself.  Meeting a new people (admittedly originally from Earth), solving problems and helping them et cetera.  I found it very similar to a number of TNG episodes in that respect and it just somehow felt a whole lot less 'action movie' than most of Discovery's episodes to date and more 'trekky'.

Yes, probably why I liked it to be honest, it was quite TNG in flavour.

There is xjearly a link to something bigger going on with the visions though

Yes, I see what you mean. The two go together well, so I expect there will be more of this kind of thing. I think that was always the plan. A lot of what happened in the first season was setting up the world and characters, so there's far more depth than TNG, but with that done, the boldly going can take centre stage.

Discovery really getting into its own this series - having Pike on there is a great move. Probably the only iconic Star Trek character who’s also pretty much a blank canvas.

Spoiler
Bold move taking the plot to Talos IV. Links it directly with the first ever episode of Star Trek, something no other Trek has really ever done...

Timeline...?

Spoiler
Star Trek: Discovery season 2 is set in 2257, 3 years after "The Cage" but about 10 years before the events of "The Menagerie".
