Whilst that may be true, I think I remember the scene you're talking about, I don't think they want to make a big deal out of it, cos it would slant the message of the show if they were to do that. Take Kima for instance, she's an openly gay woman, and there's a million different storylines they could've sprung out of her personal relationships both with her work colleagues and her partner, but that's not what the show is about so we're given just enough backstory to make the character 3 dimensional, but not so much that the show becomes about them.
Therein lies the power of the Wire right there. Selection of storylines more than anything and keeping an eye on the main purpose of the show; which actually is, imo, a city cronic of Baltimore with Baltimore being used as a metaphor even for contemporary America.
The scene I was talking about btw was after Bubbs vomitted all over Jay's shirt while being interrogated.

Just watched episode 8...

Spoiler
Well, certainly didn't expect Omar to go out like that! Also looks like the shit is well and truly going to hit the fan for McNulty and co. Too many people know now so it's only a matter of time...

Loved the part where the FBI profiler is describing McNulty to McNulty. Also, at the end, what was the significance of the name tags being on the wrong bodies and the coroner correcting the mistake? Something to do with Beadie's point just before about no-one caring much about you when you're gone maybe...

I love the wakes they have for dead colleagues. 'He was good poh-leece'. Followed by The Pogues and vomiting in the gutter.  ;D

Yeah man. I keep pronouncing it 'five oh'  ;D ('50' looked a bit wrong)

Ep 8 is cold. Even for The Wire.

This is torture.
I've downloaded 7 episodes, but watched only 3 so far.

And whenever I see a 'spoiler' on this thread, I'm like Bubbs and Johnny waiting to get a hit...
(want to click, want to click, can't, can't.......Help!)

I'm going to take a day off work just to watch all 10 episodes straight when the series ends.

Know how you feel. He was one of my favorite characters, and still missed.

They're never afraid to kill off major players; keeps you on your toes  ;)

As far as S5 goes, I'm loving the situation that is snowballing around McNutty... his wily scheme is coming back to bite him in the arse.

For once, the shambling, inefficient PD is mobilising, just when it's not wanted...

If I was wearing my critic ponce hat, I'd hazard something deep and meangingless about it being a joke about naming and identity; in life his name was enough to make others run in fear, even when he was crippled. he was the ghetto bogeyman, legendary in that world. In death, he was mixed up with some old white guy. Fucker of a way for him to go out, though.
So hoping Snoop and Chris get 'capped' or whatever you youngsters are calling it these days.

You're probably right. Some old, white coronary victim mixed up with one of the most notorious stick up artists. (I re-read this and it sounds like I'm taking the piss. Not what I intended! More the ignominity of being confused with someone who was unremarkable from the show's point of view)
As for the Stanfield crew. I'm not the greatest fan of anti-drugs enforcement but I hope they go down rather than get shot. Maybe Marlo and Avon will get to catch up on old times. ;D
What happened to WeeBay? His photo is up in the intro credits with other mopes what got killed. Are they implying he met his demise too?

Also starting to think episode 9 was maybe the best ever...

Very tempted to watch that but I'm gona hold out till next week. If 9 was anything to go by the show isn't going to let anyone down.

Somone's gona get got!

Ep 6 and 12 from Series 2 are my favorites. S5Ep09 is a belter though. Lester plays out some of his finest scenes in the whole series.

There's some great scenes in this episode alone. Marlo and co arrested (we get to see some emotion from Marlo for once), Bubble's moving speech, Snoop getting killed, the sad scenes with Michael and Dukie, Lester, Kima giving the game away, McNulty knowing the consequences are not far off... really can't wait for next week.

That is as it should be - a lot of people don't have access to HOD!  The last few weeks have been awful, having to avoid people (and this thread) for fear of someone letting something slip by the time I watch the episodes on Sunday nights.   March 9, 2008 will be a sad day indeed, but I can't wait.

Meanwhile, have to agree with those touting ep 9 as probably one of the best in the entire series.  Best scene for me was the "family" breakup of Dukie, Mike and Bug - powerful stuff; the casting director(s) earned their salaries 5 times over with the young actors brought onto the show last season, particularly Tristan Wilds and Jermaine Crawford (though they all - even that b*stard Kenard - have been terrific).

I watched it last night but realised I'd seen it before. It's only about 20 minutes long but better than nothing I guess. It's more of a program trying to entice people into watching than for people who've been watching for a while. It's interesting to hear some of the characters real accents though, if you haven't before, like McNulty's and Stringer's...
